Continental 6-48???

I’m looking at the Vector Continental X8, 6-48 scope. It’s listed as a “Field Target” scope. I am interested in using it for 100Y bench rest but I’m confused why they are classifying it as a FT scope? Anyone have any reasons why it would not work as a BR scope?
Here’s a link to the MIL SFP version of the scope in the above quote.

The description also lists Benchrest as an intended use. Another thing important for Field Target but not benchrest is how the parallax works. It is important that you need to rotate the parallax wheel significantly for different distances, especially as you approach 50 yards. In American Field Target I believe this is how you "range" the target. But that would be relatively unimportant for Benchrest, I believe. It apparently has a relatively small dot reticle which I like for Benchrest shooting.

I own and like a couple Vector scopes but they have 5 year warranties which is worse than my Arken, Athlon, and Hawke scopes. Not a controlling factor IMHO but a factor.

@JimD I knew that didn’t sound right.

My Continental has a lifetime warranty and it appears that this model does as well.

Went to the range today. The scope looked fantastic at 50Y. Moved out to 100 and the scope would not focus over 20x. Three other guys at the range tried it too and they had no success either so I know it’s not my old eyes. One guy had a Minotaur on his rifle and it put this one to shame, which shouldn’t be. I’m not giving up as there are lemons in nearly every product so to be fair I want to try another one. This one is on its way back.

I didn’t have the scope mounts crowding the turret housing and the screws were torqued to 10” lbs.

Hello,
Just following up on this thread. I’m considering buying one of these scopes. Did you get an answer why it would not focus above x20 power? I’m looking for real world feedback before purchasing.
Cheers,
Cameron

Hi Cameron. No they did not say why but they did replace the scope free of charge. The new scope works great. 40X at 100Y focus is fine. 48X is a little dimmer as expected. At 50Y the scope is fantastic. I was also able to see 300 WinMag impacts on steel, at 400Y, as I was spotting for a buddy yesterday.

I also compared it to a Sightron SIII 10-50 at 100Y and the Sightron is sharper and clearer but also at 2X+ the cost. The Continental is certainly useable (for me) at 100Y which was my goal. I will be using it at the upcoming PAC in September.
