Compressors

Not advisable for the air cooled unit and for that matter both my Yong Heng's have a habit of blowing the rupture disc more often when I go all the way to 4500psi or when I use the auto stop feature regularly. This just does not happen when I only fill to 4300psi and release the pressure before I turn the unit off so I stop there. It only takes 5 minutes to replace the rupture disc and they are dirt cheap.

You can get one of those 12V compressors. All oil and water cooling free but they are slower and suitable for filling rifles only. The problem is, their parts are not as available as those of Yong Heng so I am still sticking to the latter. I am using my Yong Heng next to the tap so no water bucket is required. For compressors of this kind, you don't just want to be able to use it but also fix it by yourself so the availability of parts is an important consideration. In this regard Yong Heng is unmatched even by those high-dollar compressors. It is not uncommon to hear reports about people multiple emails or phone calls to the dealer but still unable to get parts. If the unit is still under warranty, you will need to find a sturdy box, do the packing and pay for the shipping. Just toooooooo troublesome for me. Considering all these factors, It's safe to say that Yong Heng is the only compressor in the market that gives you total independence.

So the one linked above, even though it can fill a 4500psi tank, its not "advisable" or its life expectancy would be seriously lessened? And therefore, the YH is the way to go? Consensus agree?

Yes. I think I even saw in one spot linked for that compressor that they only recommend it for small bottles. Even the YH is probably stressed pretty well topping off larger tanks but they have worked for that for many people. The other one, not so sure but I guess it could work.

Actually the reason I decided to buy a Shoebox instead of a Yong Heng is because of the 20 amp requirement. I know nothing of such things but I do know that the circuit breakers in my condo trip very easily. It's this electrical problem that I am concerned about. Also, the Shoebox is known to be reliable and spare parts are readily available. The fact that it is made in the states is kind of a big deal to me as well.

Guys, give the new folks a break. I know it’s easy to forget we once had these same questions, like “can you fill a 88 cu ft tank with a hand pump?” It’s even tougher for the new folks today than it was for the “experts”, as there are so many more accessories to this sport than there once was, to sift through.

I see MOSTLY people just trying to give opinions on what they have along with suggestions as to what might work. Surely no reason to belittle any questions.
