Complete noob

I am going to go out on a limb and recommend a Weihrauch HW95 over a PCP. Limited budget gets an OK PCP. But, all the other stuff costs twice as much as the rifle. Trust me, I jumped down the PCP rabbit hole five years ago. For the same amount as an OK PCP, you can get an heirloom quality break barrel. Purchase a good Hawke Airmax scope, a BKL droop mount, a sleeve of 14.3 FTT and Bob's your uncle. I can hit quarter sized spinners at 50 yards with the HW95 all day long and never have to fill it.

Small game - squirrels, rabbits, occasional birds
Well if your intended targets will be in a wide range of distances I would stick with a standard rifle rather then a Pup with the high scope ( But you already know that :) )

In todays PCP world you can get very accurate rifles even in the low bucks range, ....you will be amazed of the difference in precision a PCP will be compared to a springer.
