Collective wisdom on Fx Impact 25

Lockdown hit just as I traded in my 25cal streamline for a 25cal Impact mark 2 with pp. Que a three month wait for my local Registered Firearms Dealer to open again. Finally got my mitts on the rifle this week and managed to cram in two shooting sessions when everyone is asleep (light until past 2230 up here). Zero at 45 yards and was very accurate shooting jsb kings at 900ftps with the reg just over 100bar and hs on max with valve stem on three.

Due to a new baby coming just an hour after first session with the rifle and a demanding toddler I won't be out again for a while so consuming YouTube videos on tuning. I have the new superior liner and in my mind I want to get the rifle to a stage of shooting jsb king heavies at 860 to 880ftps then with a twiddle of the hammer spring to get between 875 to 900ftps with the kings as this rifle will cover areas not suitable for my 22lr. This seems entirely realistic from my research.

My plan is to max out the valve stem adjuster on 4 and increase the hs and reg pressure until I get the heavies to 890ftps or so then adjust the valve stem down until I hit desired speed, then use hs adjustment knob to get me shooting the Kings at the desired speed as well.

Any tips or tricks you guys have to assist me in my quest would be much appreciated as I am very new to this. Feel free to tell me I am well off on my tuning plan as my wife has hardened me to such criticisms..... Also curious about barrel indexing, lots of people refer to it but I have no idea how to go about it.

It's already a perfect combination shooting 25.39gr JSB Kings that gives an excellent balance of speed to shot count ratio at 900fps and just over 45fpe. I bet it's a tack driver shooting those 25.39gr JSB Kings. Since you mentioned that you have a trusty firearm for the power I would leave it be JMHO. I have 2 Impacts in 25 caliber both set up for 25.39gr Kings and that's good enough for me and very much set at your power level and 100 yard shots are very doable just they way they are. If I need to put a bigger hole in game I grab my 30 FX Bobcat or Boss but they can't tell the difference because dead is dead. Too much power leads to over penetration zippy dee doo dah right through them critters. I'd rather have the lead stuck inside at least they die of lead poisoning if not from the shock.

That is very true Yo. The only reason I am looking to shoot the heavies is I have nine tins of the stuff bought off a guy selling up. Not tried out to 100 yards but at 50 it was one ragged hole which matches my Anschutz 22lr with its preferred ammo which has impressed me. Trigger a bit heavy but I see that I can change that easily enough. I presume heavies will shoot around 800ftps at current settings. I will explore if these shoot well at this speed and resist fiddling for now.

On a side note the Impact seems very well put together and even with the 700mm barrel is very short and point able. Think I am on to a winner, nae luck for the rabbits....

Don't adjust your trigger too light. You may run into some very annoying problems. They are far from match grade which is the nature of this beast but so are AR-15s.

I have a THEOBEN Rapid that shoots just under 700fps using 28gr Korean domes one holers at 50 pretty darn ridiculous. Haven't even given it any thought of bumping it up it shoots like a laser with mostly everything I feed it no matter what it's set at once and forget straight from the factory.

Noted, although think I have been spoilt by my Daystate Mark 4is and Wolverine R triggers that are just sublime. Impact looks odd but actually shoots off hand very well. Inundated with rabbits atm so it will get used a lot out to 70 to 80 yards. Stuck a hugget on the end and it is mouse fart quiet.

Out of interest Yo how do the Kings far at 100 yards, are we looking at serious holdover and are they much affected by the breeze?

All pellets are affected by wind. The 25.4gr fares better than the 18.1gr 22 caliber. Expect between a 12-14 inch drop shooting 25.4gr JSB Kings if zeroed at 50 yards at 900fps depending on your scope height in relation to the bore. Best way to know for sure is to put up a 100 hard target aim and shoot 10 shots while aiming dead on to target and measure the center of that group in relation to point if aim. Go shoot and let me know how much yours drop at 100 if zeroed at 50 yards. MOUSEFART QUIET...

I am always amazed at people who are surprised that the rules are different in other countries. Given that the rules here in the US differ from State to State i am not sure why anyone would be surprised that they would be different in another country.

Airguns are not treated like firearms in most of the US, but some States (e.g. New Jersey) are quite restrictive. Interestingly enough the level of restriction does not follow all the usual markers that one might expect. In Connecticut where I am I must have a permit to purchase any firearm, whether a rifle, pistol or shotgun, plus aN instant background check on every purchase. However there are no restrictions whatsoever on the purchase of any airgun, no matter how powerful.

As someone who lived in Canada for a long time, and who has lived in Europe, I prefer the freedoms with respect to airguns (firearms too) that I have here. That is not to say that the airgun rules in some of the other countries might not actually be more logical in some ways. To each their own, my choices are not for everyone.

Firearms are strictly controlled in the UK and that includes any airgun capable of more than 12ftlbs of energy. Security and medical checks plus an interview confirm whether you are suitable to hold an Fac, thereafter you have to persuade the police as to why you wish to own each firearm ie club shooting, rabbits, fox or deer. I appreciate this seems strict you guys in the USA but it is not too prohibitive and there are a lot more firearms in the UK than many Americans realise, especially shotguns (which are treated differently again). Those are the rules so we must play by them.

On a more positive note finally stretched the impact our from 50 to 100 yards. Yo was almost spot on with his prediction coming in with a drop of just over 13 inches at 100 yards with the jsb kings and around half this at 80 yards. Group size remained minute of rabbit out to 80 yards despite the wind (always windy in Scotland).

Very impressed with this rifle which will give my Anschutz a run for its money out to 100 yards. Not my usual type of airgun but it can certainly shoot and seems to work well off hand despite my 6ft4 frame. Will try with the heavies again as have several tins kicking about, suffice to say no rabbits are safe on the farm anymore....

"Almost spot on with his prediction coming in with a drop of just over 13 inches at 100 yards with JSB Kings". That was just an estimated guess that I said between 12-14 inches at 100 yards because I don't know how high your scope is in relation to the barrel. Otherwise I think I would have "NAILED IT" rather than come in between A WHOPPING 2 inch window sorry I was not precise enough with my the 100 yard drop guess-timation. I should have asked for scope height.

AND! I did not and never ever use any sort of cheating calculation like others do such as straylock pro or something like that? and just put targets from 10 yards to 135 yards in 5 to 10 yard increments and some out to 200 yards and just use real world old fashioned shooting at actual targets to estimate clicks or holdover always max the power of scope on SFP scopes to have perfect holdover shots if not clicking.

Ha ha Yo, no worries, thanks for all the help. I am use to a big drop with the rimmie as I use subsonics so I can live with 13 inches. I have watched a lot of YouTube guys shooting crazy groups at 100 and assumed an element of poetic license in what was being shown but I now recognise this gun is more than capable at 100 yards if I am up to the task. Will stick to 80 yards for now until I get use to it.
