Does cold have an effect on focus? For example, suppose you focus at 50 yards at 80 degrees, and make a mark on your sidewheel. A few days later the temperature dropped to 40. Will your scope still focus at 50 yards on the same mark?

It depends upon what scope it is, as well as the magnification. My Sightrons both shift a little bit between 60 and 90 degrees, but so little its negligible. My 2 Kahles 10-50×60 FT don't shift at all, but ranging with them in the first place takes a little finesse and getting used to. Depending upon the scope and it's magnification, it could shift. Some guys that do own scopes that do shift, make a sidewheel tape of a lower temperature, and more on higher temperature. It's a matter of learning the scope and its inaccuracies and accuracies.
