Had something interesting happen a while back during install and testing of a poly guide tube and top hat kit for the stock spring in my AA Pro Sport .22. I used the new top hat and extra washers provided to get the same thickness of the stock metal top hat as instructed. Worked well. Then tried adding 1 more power washer, worked well. Added a second power washer and the action would not fully cock.
It would cock just far enough for the trigger assembly to capture the piston but not set the trigger and the safety. So I had a cocked rifle with no way to release the piston. Trigger was dead.
I ended up taking the stock off, setting the action in a vise. I then put several wraps of .032" safety wire around the back of the trigger block assembly and a secure anchor point further forward. Then while holding pressure against the back of the trigger block with a tick towel to absorb the shock of release, I removed the bolt that holds the block in and the safety wire took up the load. I then cut 1 strand of wire at a time until the block was released, in a controlled manner, but still quite a shock.
Removed the 2nd power washer and it has worked fine ever since. Only thing I can attribute the problem to is that the spring reached coil bind before the trigger and safety could set, because of the amount of preload already on it with the 2nd washer.
