Clean or Dirty?

I like my FT Sightron reticle, so dirty is ok with me.Comes in handy when shooting at a dark background.

I have a mix of both, but lately I've been buying scopes with tree reticles. A well designed tree reticle lets you shoot quickly with precise holdovers which is very handy in hunting or other dynamic situations where you might not have time to dial elevation-- and if done right it won't clutter up the view.

You want a dirty reticle, take a look at almost anything from Horus... I understand the reasoning behind them, but can't stand actually looking through one.

CLEAN!

Three that I look through the most....

SWFA Mil Quad (the most 👀 time by far)

So, yeah, would say I like a clean crisp look. When I've looked through the cluttery "Christmas tree" types in the past, I've always thought to myself that it'd sure be nice to see the bottom half of the view, but all the crap is in the way.

We all have preferences — and sometimes they are logical — and sometimes not so much.

Gridded reticles are no different. 😄

🔸 If I dial for elevation — I don't need a Christmas tree and the 80 ornaments hanging from it.

🔸 If I hold for elevation, but usually shoot in calm conditions — I don't need an evergreen reticle either.

🔸 If I do a lot of scopecam filming — I wouldn't want the clutter dots, I want a clean scope image.

🔸 If I do rushed shooting (stalk hunting, or very mobile quarry) — holding for wind and elevation is harder — so using the Christmas tree reticle will require a lot of practice. Dialing allows me to put the crosshairs dead center and squeeze the trigger.

🔸Of course, the solution are electronic reticles, where we cycle through a dozen options and select which reticle is most suitable for the shooting scenario we're facing.

It probably won't be long until those become common and affordable....

What a great time to be an airgunner! 👍🏼
