chrony solution for Edgun's

I have already shot and destroyed (2) of the cheap tripod mounted chrony's, so I bought this new cheap chrony that mounts on the barrel of any long PCP gun. However, it did NOT fit on the Edgun (a Leyla in my case). So I dropped by Lowes and bought a PVC coupler with an inside diameter of 42.3mm, by 2 1/2in long for .98 cents, and just down the same isle a little farther I found a .58 cent 1 1/2 inch bracket. Beyond that all you need is some scotch double sided tape, and maybe a little piece of electricians tape. I made two of these, the first one, I cut the PVC coupler in half, but I found it difficult to read the display which is somewhat blocked by my scope. The second one, I simply use the entire length of the PVC coupler. That gave me enough clearance to see the display after the shot with the scope on the gun.

Once you attach the bracket to the pvc coupler using the double sided tape, take (2) rubber bands (#64 work well) and attach the coupler to the cheap ass chrony. (28 bucks for the chrony on ebay). One other fyi, the chrony only reads in meters per second, and does not read out beyond 3 digits (no 10ths, no 100ths etc). No biggie, it still gets the job done, just 3.28 X the number = FPS. After you attach the PVC coupler to the chrony, just slide the Chrony onto the Edgun moderator. It should fit perfectly, if not, a small inch piece of electrical tape on the inside of the coupler will make for a perfect snug fit.

On another note, this chrony works perfect on my FX Mk2, just slide a small piece of fuel line over the u-bracket so you don't scratch your $400 barrel, and a piece of electrical tape on the bottom mounting V block and your good to go. This entire chrony only weighs 4.9 ounces, this is one ounce less than the Donny FL that came with my FX MK2 ! So yes, you can mount this and fire away and not worry about killing the Chrony with minimal POI shifting.

Weight of the chrony and additional weight of the PVC coupler/bracket is not an issue on the Russian tank (Leyla)....ZERO POI shifting. Another fyi, just unscrew the cap that holds in the Edgun moderator and take it with you to Lowes (or HDepo) and find the PVC coupler that fits perfectly. It will slide on and off the Edgun moderator/barrel without scratching anything, but its perfectly snug enough to shoot all day without any worry that you might shoot the chrony.

Simple but effective, and it will hold me over until the bugs in the FX chrony are ironed out.

Sunlight or darkness has no ill effect on these chronys, inside or outside. Very consistent. Unfortunately all these cheap chrony's are all metric.

Example, I have my .25 caliber Lelya tuned for 902 FPS. The meter will read 275 or 276 between shots, thats 275 x 3.28 = 902 FPS. The tripod mounted chrony's actually read out to 4 digits, but they are a pain the rear to set up and they fall over easily. (wind could blow them over). The chrony above that mounts to the barrel only reads out to 3 digits. Consistency is the key, and they are just that. I just find a number that is consistent and gives me the best accuracy on what ever gun/pellet I'm using. I do not have any high dollar chrony's to compare actual speeds against, but as you know, consistency is more important.

Both times I shot my two tripod mounted chrony's I was off hand shooting my Leyla, and I thought I had it lined up, but the barrel on the Edgun's sit lower in the moderator, creating an optical allusion (my excuse) and you think your shooting thru the middle of the chrony box, when actually you are not! lol I shot the top off my first chrony, and the bottom off the second. As it turned out, I took the bottom off one, and the top off the other and I still have a working tripod chrony.

I have one the same as this. It fits my barrels without the need for extra brackets. I live in a metric country so no complaints there. I have found mine very consistent and accurate, and as you say, it will work in the dark. I don't understand why anybody would muck around with something costing six times more and not being able to trust its readings and having to fiddle about with position and interference. The only negative is the instructions are in Chinese but the basic functions are easy to figure out. In my opinion, it's the duck's guts.

Mine did not even come with the Chinese instructions! lol Push the button to turn on, hold the button for 3 seconds to turn off. That's all ya need to know for new users. (or walk away and it shuts off by itself after 10 or 15 minutes....) It comes with a USB charging cable.

You are correct, this will fit most guns without mods. But none of the brackets worked on my Edgun, so I came up with this slip on slip off idea.

Takes about 2 minutes to make, or zero minutes without taping the bracket to the PVC extension. Over here I think we call it the Cats Ass. lol

I bought this same unit while waiting for an AirChrony2. Once I got this, I cancelled the AC2, I had already been waiting 6 weeks for. Who knows how long that would have taken to get. This little unit is simple, but works great. It is so quick and easy compared to a regular chrony, same reading and only $23 to my door. I wish it had fps, but for the money I'll do some math.

I read this thread and many others like and I am amazed how people piss away their hard earned money. These new technologies offer solutions to non-existent problems. Like new Chronograph designs. I am a real nay-sayer here. The best, most reliable, consistent and inexpensive design is the artificially illuminated (infra-red) sun screen pair and a binary counter, simple. Some have extra features like displays in different units, sequence counters and shot string averages for more money of course, but these features are unnecessary. I still have a pencil and a calculator. I recently bought a $67 special from Ali express and it just works and at that price, I can have several and calculate my own BCs. These work indoors, outdoors and in all weather. All you need is a 9 V battery. Furthermore, you don't have to hang anything on the end of the barrel as it will change the POI. To the thread responder that trashed several of these, if he can't shoot through the sun-screen pair without hitting the Chronograph, perhaps he shouldn't own a gun.

Thanks for the tip, I got mine this week and very happy with it!

It gives the EXACT same readings as my Labradar so if it is off then the Labradar is off by the same amount...😁

The supplied clamp does not fit any moderator bigger than 30mm, so I came up with something that is universal:

A piece of elastic band with velcro (commercially available) that stretches around the moderator or muzzle. It holds very firm and fits all sizes.

It is fixed with small nuts and bolts in the holes normally used for the clamp. And a small piece of gear skin (cloth duct tape) on the v shape on the bottom to prevent marring the moderator.

The unit itself apart from being very inexpensive (Aliexpress) is very easy to use, and the best part is that the measurement is readable (with your non aiming eye) when the gun is shouldered.
