Saturn and Jupiter's rare conjunction must have played a factor in this tight group.
I was seated on an open wind swept slope, but it was good timing as the wind fluttered down to a breeze; it's what I call the 'changing of the guard' (transitional time). As the sun approaches its descent over the mountains, the topography cools down and neutralizes the steadfast winds that dominated from late morning until now. It's a calmer period, but not exactly dead: much like the top of the high tide or bottom of the low tide.
A bit about the stock: Gary Cane laminated FT fully adjustable masterpiece that him and I collaborated on for months. Worth the wait.
The HW97k .177 rifle was purchased in 2018 after Dennis Krale (Krale) agreed to have some rifles tested for a) accuracy via 5 shot groups at 50 meters with SN#'s noted and b) fit of JSB 8.4 grain pellet in breech (to eliminate a potentially oversized barrel). I took a look at the photos of the targets sent by Dennis and chose the rifle that shot the smallest group by SN #, which made the selection process very easy. This kind of customer service simply doesn't exist anymore. The action was sent to Paul Watts last year to have work done (Sunnen hone, buttoning, sized piston seal and a kit install), and I received it earlier this year. The 12fpe V-Mach kit was installed minus any metal washers/pre-compression delrin spacers per my request. I had already installed the V-Mach Rekord trigger unit, V-Mach resettable safety, Rowan air stripper and Rowan cocking aid. Custom machined oversized titanium underlever release button.
The March 8-80X56 MTR-3 IR in silver titanium finish is mounted in March rings, has a Rowan zoom lever and Bill Rabbitt magnetic removeable side-wheel that self aligns to the exact same position every time when refitted to the hub. The rail is a John Harris creation machined from one solid block built to my exacting specs (with inbuilt tilt for the March, uses the full length of the dovetail and has 10 screws for a supremely confident purchase on the 11mm dovetails). Months of waiting, but again, worth the wait.
Focus, hold, and touch off the shot (X 5):
Pellets inserted to get a more accurate measurement:
Yes, I'm a true springer evangelist. JM tar and highly concentrated molybdenum disulfide blends run through my veins. Some of y'all must be in the same boat as well having read this far
. Time to check out the "Christmas Star" now.
Thanks for letting me share. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
