Chipper #48 for the season, #1 for September

Well, it was about time! It has been several weeks since my last opportunity and I didn't have ANY chipper shots in August!

I was slightly low with this shot because I forgot to hold over at ~14 yards, but it was still DRT.

~14 yards with .177 Benjamin Fortitude Gen2 using CPUM 10.5 @ ~750fps for ~12+fpe. Passed through.

1st pic is entry. Slightly low because I forgot to hold over slightly for this close shot.

2nd pic is exit.

Chipper #48 for the season, #1 for September

Good shot. you're ahead of me for the year, but sorely lacking for September! Was a lull in late August, cool nights are moving them around now. Been whacking a couple a day since Labor day.

I am still not sure they are going to surge here like they did last year at this time. Maybe I reduced their numbers enough earlier so I may not see as many this fall.

Only time will tell.

BTW, almost didn't see this one. I have gotten out of the habit of looking in the likely places when I first come out. So, I only barely caught a glimpse of this one (or its shadow) and wasn't even sure it was a chipper, but I went ahead and set up outside for the shot just in case and it paid off. (smile)

Nice!! I've killed several this season, but I haven't seen one in over a month here in New England.

I am still getting to know their habits. However, I think from now until it gets really cold they will start trying to build up a store of food for their period of torpor and here is another link about their habits this time of year, A Chipmunk’s Winter Sleep (Torpor and Hibernation).

Also, all of the young ones should be weaned by now and out and about looking for territory. At least here in the Southeast US.

So maybe it will pick up for you and me! ;)

If I had to guess, we are in the very same neighborhood as far as the number of chippies eliminated this summer. And we both like mad magazine.

I am also experiencing the same lack of targets, which was the goal

Nice shot. Satisfying at this point in the season.

LOL! Yep, it is the "Pester's Lament". When you are successful, you end up with no or few targets! (chuckle)

Thanks!
