Chipper #33 for this season plus a tree rat

Started early this morning at daylight, but first kill was not until about 8:00am. That was the tree rat taken at ~24 yards, head shot, pass through, no twitching DRT.

Second kill was the chipper at 9:30am. ~17 yards through 2 layers of chain link fence that are about 12 feet apart. Again, head shot, pass through, no twitching DRT.

As always, .177 Benjamin Fortitude Gen2 using CPUM 10.5 @ ~755fps for ~12-13fpe.

Below is my pesting set up if I am outside. Don't laugh! LOL!

I put out chicken scratch (cracked corn, barley and wheat) for the doves and rabbits. Also put out Bromethalin bait for the rats and try to keep it away from the rabbits. However, I don't think the chippers eat the poison bait and I rarely see them feeding on the chicken scratch. When available I gather the pecans and acorns and pile them up in strategic places, but even that is only slightly effective. The Red-bellied Woodpeckers ate most of the pecans.

Granted it ain't Hollywood fashionable and your shooting setup will not get you on the pages of backyard stalker magazine. But it does seem to WORK and really that is the most important part isn't it? Also you always display that true American spirit of doing whatever is put before you with what you got in the hand. Go head and burn one of those cigars, as today is a very special day friend.

Excellent shooting position, it partially conceals you, looks familiar to the rodent residents...only one thing I would have to add is an upside-down 5 gallon plastic bucket as a side table for my coffee mug. Good shooting and pictures and nice yard. Pecans, LUCKY, I am soo jealous, you have such a nice tree. We have fig trees and they are small, no shade, just some fruit if I can keep the deer and coons off. Had several hundred ponderosa pines die off from the bark beetle infestation, so it looks a little bleak from what it looked like 5 years ago.

The chipmunks and the ground squirrels will eat the cracked corn I put out here. I don’t know if it attracts them or they just take the opportunity to eat it when they find it. If nothing else, the birds come in and entertain while waiting for the pests.

Bingo! Many pests get spooked when anything changes. I can actually move the garbage can a few feet and not spook most chippers.

One day I'll post my indoor/shoot "through the window" pesting set up. It is basically a small step ladder with adjustability using items I had on hand. All that matters inside is that I have a stable platform to make my aim rock steady. Considered a tripod, but I have gotten used to the way I do it over 3 years. (smile)
