Checking the Gen I .22

Everybody is in San Luis Obispo this weekend so I have time to check the Gen I .22 Marauder.

I had a tack driving Gen I .22 a few years ago and sold it to get into FT shooting. (Shouldn’t have.)

The one I have now, I bought as a rifled action (without stock).

I could easily see it was not used very much. I suspect the previous owner expected more accuracy out of the box and when it did not meet his expectations, he put it away. We all know our air arms are sometimes pellet picky. My .177 Gen I likes 10.34, 4.52mm pellets very much. The .25 Gen I of course is happy with 25.4 JSB Diablos…I was hoping the .22 would not be too picky. I do not have a problem buying the expensive pellets but I like to shoot the lesser priced 14.3s too..

So six pellets and a full air tube of air:

1. 14.3 Benjamins 

2. 14.0 RWS WC

3. JSB 15.89 Predator, 5.52mm

4. JSB 18.13, Diablo, 5.52mm

5. JSB 15.89 Diablo, 5.52mm

6. H&N 21.14 RN, 5.53mm

Five shot groups off of the bench at 25 yards in a light breeze using a Harris bi-pod.

#1 is a surprise and I blame #4 (probably #3, too.) on me.

Overall, I am very happy..

Absolutely correct.

We shoot at FT at Yolo (4th Saturday) on alternating months. August-October

But this will be the last year for us shooting there,.

We shoot at Ione (4th Sunday) on the other months and at Diablo all year long.

BTW…Diablo shoots airguns on Wednesdays and Fridays.

FT on 3rd Sunday and Silly Wet on the first Sunday.

We have indoor 10m shooting in the spring.

We have some very fine (world class, in fact) shooters in Northern California. They are returning from the Western States FT Championships where they were simply fantastic.
