I’m getting a Hatsan carvnivore 135 in 0.30, and want a scope for it for hunting, I will probably use the iron sights mainly, but would like to try a scope. My budget is very tight, maybe $40, any recommendations? Should I get an optic, or maybe settle for a red dot? Thank you!

What are you hunting? If you haven't bought the gun yet, I would suggest rethinking it and your reasoning. If you can't afford a good scope you aren't going to want to buy ammo for a .30. A springer will probably kill a red dot sight.

I want to hunt medium sized furry game, as well as some larger birds (turkeys and ducks). Maybe some small game, though I can do that with my brother’s Hatsan mod 95. I don’t think I would hunt farther than 25 yards, so I’m considering not having a scope at all, is that a good idea? I want the .30 for both hunting and having fun destroying things at close range, but I will take any suggestions for different guns in that price range ($150-$200 for the gun). No, I did not buy the gun yet. Thank you!

A .22 will do fine and have a longer range for what you describe. Learning to use iron sights is always a good idea, not enough shooters do.

My brother nas a .22 that he’s letting me shoot, so for longer ranges I can use that (it also has a nice scope). For shorter ranges 25 yards and under, will the 135 work? I want something a bit more unique and interesting for myself, I also like the idea of a .30 break barrel. I don’t mind the higher cost of ammo (I cannot shoot very often anyway). Is the gun good enough in itself, or will it be a struggle to hunt anything with it?

Also, I forgot to add, I’m not sure if I ever will hunt anything larger, but what can I hunt (at close ranges of course) with the .30 135 that I would not be able to with a .22 mod 95? Other than the fun factor of a .30, is there any practical benefit for a .30? I want it not just for hunting, but also for having fun destroying things. Will the larger caliber make a difference?
