Cheap scope advice...

I am almost completely scope ignorant except for experience with a handful of specific scopes purchased on recommendations in the past.

I want something with a side wheel and cheap. Right now I’m looking at a Accu-Shot UTG 2-16X44 30mm since I can easily acquire a side wheel for under 20 bucks. The other scope is a BSA Tactical 3-12 x44 with side focus, but only index wheel for it I can find is over 100 bucks. I’ve owned BSA scopes before, I know their glass sucks but they have the features I want. I’d already have bought it if somehow there was a universal index wheel I could afford

I’ll be buying 2 scopes this week some time and scopes have always eluded my understanding. Any help or advice is appreciated. I have read old threads and googled reviews but still feel lost. I make a significant amount less then I used to (yes I regressed) and money is certainly an issue. All I require is that it has side focus with option for index wheel, is somewhat capable of rough range finding, HAS MILDOTS and is slightly better then a gamo OEM 3-9 scope.

The UTG 2-16x SUCKS!!! I HAVE ONE!!! I REALLY HATE UTG LEAPERS SCOPES DUE TO ANNOYING POI SHIFTS! but the 3-12x and 4-16x MINI SWATS are JUST ABOUT A HAIR BELOW OK IN MY BOOK WITH ALMOST DECENT GLASS. The FRONT FOCUS ONES SEEM BETTER LESS POSSIBLE SHIFTS. BSA ONLY THE FRONT Focus AO scopes AND 4-14x44 Side Focus are fine.

You are better off spending $229.00 from Budk gunshop for the Aim Sports Alpha6 4.5-27x50 30mm and if you don't like it I will buy it from you as long as you don't mount it. Side Focus illuminated and extremely clear glass with a 10 yard focus.

Yes sir! Specifically for the Alpha6s Otherwise I would not stake my reputation here nor offer to buy them if anyone buys and doesn't like them as long as they were never mounted. Don't click Chinese scopes and think they are perfect like them Japanese scopes because they're not. I don't even click my Alpha6s since they're Chinese too not like how FT or dialers do. I save all the clicking only for my Japan scopes.

The TAC Vectors show good promise in clarity and had limited hands on with them so I won't stake my rep other than they are $143-$150 on AMAZON and just as clear as scopes costing $400-$500 that's it.

A bud had a US Optics TS12 I think he said it cost more than $550? And the TAC VECTOR Version was $110 from Aliexpress ($130-$170 Optics Planet $220 Edgunwest or same $220 at optics plus) LOOKED LIKE SAME SCOPE LOL!!!

Compare this Alpha6 to the $749.00 BUSHNELL FORGE get a big surprise! Don't forget punch in the 10% off code!

I have UTG scopes, as well as many more expensive brands. The UTG's I have function well and have been reliable, on both PCP's and springers. If the budget only allows for a certain cost and the UTG line fits into that range then I absolutely would not hesitate to try them. Also, the TrueStrength platform is claimed to be most reliable in the UTG line for springers.

Hey YO.... any opinion on the Tac Vector Continental ? Just noticed this morning that they claim Schott ED glass on it and German internal design and the 5-30 x 56 is a 34mm tube that weighs only 28 oz. for $549 on Amazon.

Bob

You should look at the TC VECTOR Taurus 5-30x56 FFP Great Deal on this at Amazon : I have 2 of them

My first quality scope for 600 yard centerfire benchrest was purchased on good recommendation from trusted forum members on the BR site. I loved it and it did what I needed just as well as the vastly more expensive scopes out there I’ve had the pleasure of using.

After all the good advice here, I decided on this one: TAC Vector Optics Sentinel 10-40x 4-16x 6-24x 8-32x 50mm Hunting Shooting Scope Sight with Illuminated Glass MP Reticle Riflescope. I just needed mildots and a side focus, glass quality is a bonus. Tracking is pointless for me and always has been once I’m sighted it. Even with BR scopes with no dots I don’t trust tracking so never used it. Only issues with cheap ones are POI shifts and sighting them in is a chaotic mess the DOES INVOLVE a touch of magic and superstition to get it done.

I also ordered this: UTG Add-on Index Wheel for Side Wheel AO Scope, 100mm. In hopes that I can modify it to work on my very low budget entry level FT build. Fingers crossed

For my wife’s gamo hunter elite which is an absolute joy to shoot now that I’ve tuned it quite well... (side rant: it shoots easy half inch groups or less at 25 yards with most pellets and it’s felt recoil is basically a straight back kick compared to my CFR which is a Mexican jumping bean.) I’ll probably save up for one of the better glass quality scopes or a Leupold scope. I’ll probably just monitor the classified on several sites until I see one pop up that I know will give her a great view AND look good on her gun.

I wouldn't be surprised the TAC VECTOR and ALPHA6 aren't cousins born at the same factory in CHINA. BE ADVISED THE ALPHA6 SCOPES HAVE 10 YARD FOCUS WHILE SOME OF THE TAC VECTORS ARE 15 OR 20 THEREABOUTS. I HAVE EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM INCLUDING ALL THE 10X RATIO 34MM OR 35MM? ONES CURRENTLY IN STORAGE NOW. THEY REMIND ME OF SCHMIDT & BENDERS WITH THAT CLEAR GLASS AND THE SAME DIZZYING FISHBOWL EFFECT ON LOWEST MAGNIFICATION SETTING.
