Any recommendation for a decent, cheap red dot? I've never tried one and am waiting to give it a whirl.

I've not had a lot of experience with red dot sights but this one has worked very well for me. It's mounted on my 2240 pistol but will work just fine on a rifle. The only thing is you will need a UTG Dovetail To Picatinny Rail Adaptor if you are going to put it on an 11mm rail. The red dot was about fifty bucks from amazon and I think the rail adaptor was about 8 bucks.

Hello Vortex crossfire 2 2moa red dot $120 to $150 best for that price point, Truglo 30mm 5moa red dot $35 not bad for the price just has a 5 moa dot so at 25 yds that dot covers 1.25 inches, so not that precise. Hope this helps Eric

Ok now here's another question....this intended for a pistol, but I was also wanting to try it on my rifle. How would it hold up to springer abuse?

Hello I don't know what springer you are looking to mount the red dot on but I can tell you that on a Beeman r7 I had a Vortex crossfire 2 on for my daughter with no problems for 1000s of rounds (but vortex has a no questions ask warranty). Also had an Aimpoint on a Hatsan 130s 30 cal with no problems either.(I don't know if the Vortex would of held up on the Hatsan, but under warranty if it didn't ). There are also a few videos reviews on youtube of the Hatsan 130 30cal, one with a Hatsan red dot so that may be an option but no personal experence with that particular sight. Hope this helps Eric.
