Cheap lead ball ammo

I have had great fun using what is called an SOB (Swaged Oblong Buckshot) for short range plinker or small game loads in centerfire rifles. This involves finding the next largest size of buckshot, lightly lubricating, and running through a low cost Lee cast bullet sizing die. The sizing die creates more surface area to engage the rifling and has proven more accurate than round balls.

Not sure if this will work for air rifles, but may be an option worth trying.

Hornady makes the roundest of round shot. The #3 Buckshot is .250 in diameter. I use it in my .25 guns. It is not as accurate as a pellet but still good fun at 25 and 30 yards.

Thanks for the tip. I can't seem to find Hornady in #3, only #4 and 00. Even on Hornady's site. Any chance you are shooting #4 .240 slightly undersized for rifling?

Nope I have eight boxes of the #3 .250 stuff left that I bought some years back.

and there is always the original lead shot made specifically for .177- I use it in my Veles for ratting, really a fun little ball to shoot. Can't load them in backwards, a big boon when loading in the dark. Hits like a ton of bricks, no ricochets. They've gotten more expensive, I'm still using the first batch of 1m or so I purchased a few years ago.

Got credible info the Ballistic Products 9mm balls do extremely well in Korean high power PcPs.

There are sizes rather close for 177 20 22 and 25 but no clue how well they may or may not do.

If slightly too big and a sizer can be used perhaps ok but if too small probably suck.

Perhaps a smart person could fabricate a die you could pound a ball or 2 balls in to and form slugs? Or use a reloading press?

Mix and match small and big balls to alter final weight?

Thus the reason for posting this topic in the form of a question.
