Carnivore gets its first kill.

Today I finally had a chance to go hunting. My first try there were two squirrels doing a chase around the base of a tree. Unfortunately I missed that shot. Few hours later I finally came across another squirrel, and this one I didn't miss. It was 50yds+(don't have an exact measurement because I still don't have a range finder) and quite a bit up a tree. This wasn't one of my better shots, but it got the job done just the same.

I usually like my shots more between the eye and ear for a head shot. For some reason this guy hang on after the shot, and then when he did hit the ground managed to crawl a few feet before I got to him. Of course he was pretty tough to skin too. Can't wait to see what this can do to against rabbits, raccoons, and opossum at night.

Even if you shoot them with a rim fire, sometimes squirrels craw and live a few seconds. I'm sure he was dead after taken a 44 gr chunk of lead traveling over 800 fps to the head.

Cricket, it is a BT65 but in .30 or .35 cal.

A little difficult to assess, but based on your shooting trajectory and the entrance angle, looks like it went through the same part of the brain as a straight on shot between the ear and eye. Especially confirmed if that blood on the ear came from the ear canal. From that angle, looks about the best shot to be had, nothing wrong there!
