I was wondering if you’ve done it and would you do it again or go with the compact? I like short guns but I have a 480 cc bottle so I figured I’d buythe VP and swap out the bottle and save $200. Any thoughts?

The vp is the only way to get the 600mm barrel on a wildcat. IMO the 700 is just too long, and the compact is difficult to shoot slugs accurately. The 600 (as Goldilocks would say) is juuuust right!

I did it with a Maverick VP. Worked out great.
As madeintheuk said the 600 is a just right length for many people. I have never understood FX’s offering the 600mm barrel in only the VP version of the Maverick and Wildcat.

I will buy the bottle one because you are going to pay more the 200 for the carbon fiber bottle and valve I just have the same problem with the Dreamline my shoot count was horrible

That’s what I was thinking, I already have a Veteran shorty so if I need a truck gun, I have that. I agree, the 700 is way too long and the aluminum bottle is heavy and Butt ugly. I like the idea of the 600mm/480cc combo. Probably a good balance of power and shot count.

I purchased the VP because for 200-250 bucks I can buy a 300cc CF bottle and have 2 bottles. One for the bench and one for hunting and the 600mm barrel.

I use a 580 bottle with 500mm barrel and Donny fl tanto.

I favor the 600mm on the Impact/Maverick or Wildcat. Sturdy enough not to need to get into the tensioning/tuning wormhole and capable of shooting slugs without the fussier tuning elements of the compact.

.The wildcat with the 600mm barrel seems like the way to go. I don't like the weight or look of that aluminum bottle. Adding $250-300 for a carbon fiber bottle is a big bite but I don't see any other options.
I want to keep the overall length down but possibly have the option to handle heavier pellets and or slugs.

Most(90%) of my shooting will be 75 yards or less . I have a woodchuck problem. And was considering a .30 cal
I also get rare coyote that comes through. But here too 90% of my pest problems are small to mid size critters so maybe this is over kill.

You can buy the FX 480 cc bottle for $195 and use the valve out of the aluminum bottle that comes on the gun. I know this works out to be the same price as the compact but you end up with the 600 mm barrel and a bigger bottle. The gun will only be 4 inches longer and weigh probably a half a pound more. Seems like a good compromise to me.

Well I have it tuned for 985 fps with the 17.5 nsa slugs.
Pretty easy pesting out go 130y. That’s the farthest I’ve pushed it.
Compared to an mk1 WC running hugget shroud /moderator and shooting 18gr jsb at 880…
It’s louder…but it not obnoxious.

It’s quieter than a 25cal hmx with offset moderator.
About as loud as a classic leshiy 1 with 350mm barrel tuned for 18gr jsb at 800fps

I think the weight should be a wash as the CF bottle is about 1/2 pound lighter that the aluminum this should offset the additional 4" in barrel lenght( weight)

Something else to consider is the case, the VP does not include the very nice FX hardcase. When you add up the differences in upgrades the VP looks less appealing imo.
If I could do it all over again I would get a Wildcat BT Compact and trade the 300cc bottle for either a 480cc or 580cc. Run a Tanto or Huggett like corny does and youd have the best stalking/hunting setup on the current market. My Impact 500mm is setup that way right now til I run out of 30 Cal ammo and its a couple inches shorter than my Wildcat compact tube version. Weighs about 8.5lbs with an Arken EPL4 and Olight Baldr Pro, but still not as light or ergonomic as a Wildcat.
