The gun comes with its own Foster fitting. The one on my fill station locks? but the gun wont fill. I take that fitting off and the Crown Foster is male as is the hose connection.

Odd.... I think you may have something else goin on there because the gun definitely doesn’t need to be on safe to fill.

A lot of guns need to be cocked if filling from empty. If the air was just blowing through and out the barrel, that was probably the problem.

A lot of them, yes, but not FX.
FX uses a free floating hammer, which doesn't make contact with the valve pin when it is uncocked

Even when it's cocked it's not making contact with the valvepin. lol

Sometimes the valve gets stuck, and it takes a good puff of air to pop it open. If trying to fill from a restricted air tank valve, or hand pump, sometimes a thump of the butt of the rifle, on the floor will pop it open. And sometimes it will be hanging open, and air just comes out the barrel. Same thump will usually fix.
