Can you shoot cleaning pellets through your FX guns?

I bought some Air Venturi cleaning "pellets" for my FX Crown .25 and WC MKII .22. Should I shoot these through or not? Heard of damaging o rings on the barrels extensions if you dry fire these. I can turn down the Crown to low TP and min HS but not the WC....... Thanks for the feedback

If you're going to be shooting a lot of cleaning pellets, take one of each size to your local smoke shop. Match it to the cigarette filters there. Just cut the length you want. A lot cheaper than regular cleaning pellets

I've thought about shooting cleaning pellets, but I passed. I may just take a dowel rod and shove them out the barrel. I've also heard that they are LOUD when shot out the barrel

I do it when I a little busy and don’t have time.. I take the shroud off To prevent damage. they’re loud so use ear protection ..

Thanks guys for the feedback, I didn't think about the sonic crack because they are light weight.... interesting. I'll give them a go and see what I think. Should I spritz a little CLP on them too or just dry?

I have but they are not as good as a patch in my opinion i have shot a few and after 3 or 4 they progressivly get cleaner

I just recently started using them as I started shooting slugs a bit. They are loud.

I would suggest removing any moderator and air stripper. Don't know that it would create damage, but it makes me feel better.

They work okay in a barrel that doesn't really need cleaning. I don't see much need for them. Seems to me, air rifle barrels need cleaning only when there is some lead build up, not just to remove the graphite-like stuff that is easy to clean. And if you have leading, the cleaning pellets are not likely to be effective.

I use them after hunting in the rain or snow. Or if it’s really cold and frost is on or in the gun. They do some cleaning as they always come out black. But I don’t think they grab the rifling well enough to do too much good.

I have used them in my FX Independence and other air rifles and I always back them up with a pellet. This is especially important for springers to maintain compression and prevent damage.

I have loaded two felt cleaning pellets without a backup lead pellet in PCP type rifles and then recovered them in the yard to verify that there are dark stripes on them from removed gunk. I usually load a cleaning pellet and then a lead pellet behind it. I think it would be easier to shoot these into a bucket of water to recover and see how dirty the felt pellets are.

Again, for the spring piston guns, absolutely do not use a felt cleaning pellet without a backup lead pellet behind it to prevent damage.

When you said, "I always back them up with a pellet." Does that mean you put a pellet in the chamber, right behind the cleaning patch, and shoot them out as the same time?

I don’t shoot them. I pull them through with the Patch Worm (best cleaning tool around for any barrels). I think they help with the patch to really get a firmer pressure in the barrel than the patch alone can get, for the first couple passes.

Cleaning instruction starts at 3:14 and could likely be applied to other manufacturers. Just thought I would share.

Yes; I load a felt pellet first, then load a lead pellet.

Tried them when I first got into pcp's & was in that serious learning curve. What I learned is DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! They never did a very good job for me. I think I still have some .25's. If you want em I'll send them to you.

Rather than putting the pellet in behind the felt pellet, (Which Can cause part of the felt to try to go around the pellet and cause a restriction which could bulge a thin barrel), Put the felt pellet behind the lead pellet. it will act much like a shotgun wadding and the force of the air charge will cause it to crush and spread in a very tight fit. Which will greatly increase it's cleaning effectiveness.
