Can One Do It All?

Of course I know 1 can't do it all but i am hoping for some recommendations that will check my main boxes, i would like a lighter gun to be able to take into the woods for hunting but also that can perform well from a bench. Next I would like it to be easy to adjust without going to deep preferred to have the option on the fly. I would like it to be able to shoot slugs on the higher output so I can take out coyote and similar sizes game, than would like to be able to tune it down to be able to shoot pellets as well and take some smaller sized game. Prefer .25 caliber and want to be around $1500 gun only have everything else is it possible let me know some options thank you all and stay safe.

I don’t have much experience but I would think an airforce TalonP or condor would suit your purpose perfectly. Some don’t Iike the airforce style but you couldn’t ask for something easier to adjust. I can shoot anywhere from 15 to 55FPE with my talon. A longer barrel extends that to 75 or 100. The condor is already up around 75 or 100 fpe I think. Not sure how low it goes. Some change can be made using a built-in spring tension dial. There are also inserts that can be put in and taken it out in just a moment that greatly reduce the size of the transfer port. So the combination of the spring tension dial and the different transfer ports gives you a huge dynamic range. Accuracy is great as far as I can tell. The barrel is choked though, so you’d have to find the right slug... or an unchoked barrel or maybe that disqualifies these?

...methinks a .25 cal AirForce rifle would indeed be the closest fit to the stated parameters...

...they are very modular so you can have one configured to your specific needs...

...I do not much care for the Air Force style but it is easy enough to ignore...the style is very sturdy...

...I do like the price/power/weight/accuracy coefficient...

...I originally got the TalonP to do it all and it largely does...a 24" barrel and a "stock" transformed it...

...in a few minutes it could be transformed back...

...if I "had to pick one" it would be the "Escape" configuration...for one thing I like how the small tank does not require such high scope mounts...

...also I tend to use a hand pump to fill it...

...the Escape has been doing it all for a year now, but I have to admit it is a bit rowdy for the yard...I just bought an Emperor for it...

Veteran is my personal experience with one gun for everything in the price range you mention that can easily and repeatably be adjusted for fpe output. Probably a Long version for enough juice on the high end for your coyote ambitions.

Double that price and the Red Wolf (recently called the Ferrari of airguns by somebody on the form) offers VERY repeatable and super simple power level adjustments. I reviewed a Red Wolf Standard with a gen2 board. Had it in my possession for 7 or 8 weeks and used it for everything from long range (150+yds) pdog with slugs to sub 20fpe field target competition, with stellar results and success in both stated endeavors, and everything in between as well.

How are the adjustments on the vet all external and on the fly?

The hammer spring tension that is externally adjustable offers a very broad range of power output. If you're one of those guys that likes to mess with regulator pressure just for fun, than, no, the Veteran does not allow for changes to the regulator pressure without disassembly. The point I was trying to make is that the Vet's hammer tension adjustment is external and on the fly, and very repeatable with minimal headache.

But with your regulator set you can get a range of shots in different FPE accurately?

The Sumatra has always caught my eye aren't they replacing it though?

There may be a possibility because the long ones aren't available unless you find a dealer who has them left such as this one. I see the carbine versions still being sold and long ones got more power. The 500cc version is what I would buy especially if going 25 caliber. You can click the easy user adjustable power wheel up or down for a surprisingly broad range of power to safely shoot inside your house or kill a coyote. Pretty repeatable power settings too. Just count the clicks while adjusting power up or down.

I believe everyone should at least try one of these.

The Career 707 and Sumatra share many (most) mechanical and cosmetic parts. The Sumatra is what the Career 707 evolved into and made it extremely pellet loading friendlier by using revolver style magazines instead of the 707s inline magazine that a fiddly shuttle feed stop adjustment would be required in order to shoot different lengths of pellets. I have several of both and the Career 707 advantage to me is the greater magazine capacity once the shuttle feed stop is set perfectly. Older Career 707s did not have threaded barrels extending past the fill port so a custom LDC set up would have to be made and gun sent in to Allen Z to do it.

Imo Yo has a point when suggesting Sumatra. Certainly for the hunting purposes you re proposing.

Of all my magazine loaded Korean guns, my .25 Sumatra is my 2nd most favourite (close runner up behind my single tube Sinshing 707 MK3 in .22)

Don’t know if the (long) Sumatra is to be considered “a model benchrest gun” (i guess not because of the underlever action), but accurate it is indeed. Even more accurate than some will admit. Provided of course its pellets and slugs are well choosen. Mine does very well with 34gr mkII JSB, and it s even more accurate with Benjamin Domed on max. power. That’s not just me saying; look at 15:10 minutes into this clip : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76-KJojud4M&t=958s

Also highly accurate on homemade slugs of around 30-40grain. On max power with the 55grain Fast Fatties slugs, my Sumatra does 140joules/103fpe, although longrange accuracy is undeniably somewhat better with 30 up to 40 grain slugs on max power and high velocities (of around 1000 fps and more).

One downside though (as i see it) : the Sumatra has a big bark. And whatever type or brand of silencer I put on it, accuracy will always very slightly influenced. At least with mine.

PS : my Sumatra is stock, except for a (slightly) larger valve stem with adjusted and reinforced poppet, nothing more.
