Can I use an oxygen bottle

I am new to the airgun world but not shooting. I just got a RAW TM 1000 in .177 for benchrest. A friend gave me an oxygen bottle he used for welding. Is this something I can use to fill my PCP rifle or should I keep looking for a carbon fiber bottle? Thanks.

No, never ever fill a PCP with oxygen!!!



I wouldn't wven use an empty oxygen bottle refilled with air, as it opens the door to a possible catastrophe later.

I can't remember for sure but I think it can only be filled to 2500 psi which most but not all PCP are filled to 3000 psi or higher. How are you planning to fill it and how big is it?

Do you know of a PCP fill station that works with these bottles? No? Me neither.

If I remember correctly (?) it uses a cga 540 fitting. All he would have to do is plumb off the fitting like cga 347 fill stations are but as I said earlier it might not be worth it because I don't believe O2 tanks are filled above 2500 psi.

No I wasn't going to use the oxygen in it. I just didn't know if it was worth trying to set it up for PCP. I have my answer. Thank you. My friend is getting his bottle back.

It’s not worth it. If your on a budget just look for a expired scba tank. I know I’ll get trashed for saying that but that’s my opinion.

I think the O2 tank is fine. You shouldthe change the color and label it for compressed air. Be sure not to leave oxygen in it and put plenty of power lube on the pellet. It could explode or go super sonic that's above 1600fps. Be safe.

Liquid oxygen is one of the ingredients in rocket fuel. Think about it!

Don't let savings on a tank cost you much more when something bad happens later. Save up and get the equipment designed for your usages.

most oxy tanks are 2400 psi rated, they have the pressure stamped on the tank, if you know how to read them, about the 3 min mark
