Can 4500PSI tanks be fill with compressor AND scuba shop?

Hey gang



I saw a view review of YH compressor and he mentioned that once a tank is filled at home with a compressor the scuba shops won't fill it anymore? Is that true? Have you guys tried to fill your tanks both at home and at the shop? I would like to fill it at home and if I travel then I'll just get it filled at the shop but it sounds like my plan could have a flaw in it.

I have never had a problem . As long as your tank is in hydro and it is DOT approved there should not be a problem . Besides how will that ever know that you fill at home unless you tell them

Thanks, that's kinda what I'm thinking too. In the youtube video he said his shop let some air our and smelled a little bit of oil from compressor, I assume most shops would have one way valve and could care less.

they need a visual every year and hydro every 5 for dive shops to fill them if my memory serves me right

I fill mine at home, and at the local dive shop, I also go to the welding/fire extinguisher shop to get it done, never an issue no matter what, scuba shop here charges $11 to fill from 3000psi back up to 4500psi the place that does the fire equipment charges $5 for same fill it doesn’t matter if it’s my great white or the 60min scba tank

How would a dive shop know if you give them an empty (zero air inside) c.f. 4500 psi tank that has a little diesel gasoline and or petroleum based oil in it? YO?

My first air tank fill was at a dive shop, the second was a paintball shop, then back to the dive shop, they really are not concerned, since they are only adding air to your tank. As mentioned the only thing they should be looking at is the certification date.
