Anyone else planning to hunt this fall in CA?
I might scout for Merriam's Turkeys next weekend as I have never hunted them. I'll be scouting in the El Dorado National Forest; I've never seen any up there before, but it is in an area that people recommend. Doesn't hurt to get out and check it out.
If you're hunting the Rio Grande Turkeys at lower elevations in the Sierra Nevada foothills, you should have good luck as I am seeing large flocks when commuting to and from work. Unfortunately, I don't have any hunting permissions on private land down low, and only a tiny area of BLM land where I will be hunting. The small size means that it is just as likely that the turkeys will be on private lands as on the BLM land.
