Winter has definitely returned to Alaska this year marking the unofficial end of global warming! We have had one of the coldest and snowiest winters in several decades and cabin fever is definitely setting in. That along with all the craziness that is going on in the world was all we needed for my wife and I to decide to make the trek to our remote cabin to clear a little of the snow load, check on the river for any sign of open fishing holes and shoot some airguns. A neighbor of ours up there had swung over and checked on my cabin and told me I should probably head up there to do some clearing. Everything was holding nicely, but no telling how much more snow we are still going to get this winter.
So we left Friday right after I got off work and made the trek up. It took me a while to break trail and get a good solid trail in around the cabin so we could get our load of gear in there. Just for a reference, our deck and cabin is over 4' off the ground on pilings. When we arrived, the snow was 2-3' over that in most places...
The first order of business was to at least get the porch roof cleared so the snow on the main cabin could shed on its own later. The cabin is built extremely stout so we don't worry about that as much as the porch.
And of course we had to clear a trail to She Shed...
And after all that it was time to do some relaxing with the rifles and pistol.
All in all I would say that operation social distancing was a huge success. My only hope is that much more of it takes place before all this is over. Next time we will bring several more air rifles and spend more time enjoying it! I suggest everyone spend as much time outdoors and away from people as absolutely possible!
