Cabin Fever, Social Distancing, and the end of Global Warming...

Winter has definitely returned to Alaska this year marking the unofficial end of global warming! :p We have had one of the coldest and snowiest winters in several decades and cabin fever is definitely setting in. That along with all the craziness that is going on in the world was all we needed for my wife and I to decide to make the trek to our remote cabin to clear a little of the snow load, check on the river for any sign of open fishing holes and shoot some airguns. A neighbor of ours up there had swung over and checked on my cabin and told me I should probably head up there to do some clearing. Everything was holding nicely, but no telling how much more snow we are still going to get this winter.

So we left Friday right after I got off work and made the trek up. It took me a while to break trail and get a good solid trail in around the cabin so we could get our load of gear in there. Just for a reference, our deck and cabin is over 4' off the ground on pilings. When we arrived, the snow was 2-3' over that in most places...

The first order of business was to at least get the porch roof cleared so the snow on the main cabin could shed on its own later. The cabin is built extremely stout so we don't worry about that as much as the porch.

And of course we had to clear a trail to She Shed...

And after all that it was time to do some relaxing with the rifles and pistol.

All in all I would say that operation social distancing was a huge success. My only hope is that much more of it takes place before all this is over. Next time we will bring several more air rifles and spend more time enjoying it! I suggest everyone spend as much time outdoors and away from people as absolutely possible!

That looks like an exhausting weekend, lol. But being in the middle of nowhere has it's advantages.

I wouldn't mind living up there in the summer, winter no way. I lived there for 3 months one summer, it was fun fishing for kings and steelhead.

A friend and his wife stay on their yacht during the summer at various places in Alaska and fish a lot. What a life, aye!

You're probably going to think I am crazy, but I moved up here because of the winter. I absolutely love the summers here, but the winters are what made me stay. I am sure at some point as I get older we will probably head down south for a few months of the winter, but for now I am loving it! I couldn't handle the heat of the summers most places...

What great pictures! What part of Alaska? Looks like a great cabin, but the most important thing I see is you have a great partner. Used to love the snow here in Idaho. Could hardly wait to wake up the hounds and go hunting. Some years the plow wouldn't throw it over the berm on the side of the driveway and the driveway would get narrower and narrower until we were snowed in. Another adventure. And then something happened. Think it is called age. Enjoy it while your able. sylvan

We are just northeast of Talkeetna. Luckily the roof is the only clearing we have to do. The cabin is snowmachine access only in the winter so we just have to break a trail to it and around it. Lots of good moose, black bear and grizzly bear hunting around us with the salmon stream bordering our property. And lots of lynx, fox, coyote and wolf in the area as well.

WOW! We freak out when we get a 3 or 4" snow here in NM. One thing that stood out to me is that fact that you definitely married UP! lol. Very nice place you have there.

Thanks on both accounts! I totally agree!
