BUYERS BEWARE

This rant is for the noobs and others not as educated as some.

I recently bought a tier1 used gun. Never thought I'd get one but I did. $450.00 later its on it's way back from being rebuilt. I don't think the guy I got it from did the mods. For those that don't know, You can't tell from pics if a gun has been internally modified. In my case, I intended to sent it back and have it gone through anyway, But was surprised at the report I got back and what had to be done to it...

CF bottle that was part of the original purchase was swapped for a small aluminum bottle

24" barrel cut to 21"

TP elongated

Everything associated with and including the valve had to be replaced.

Bolt probe repaired

Springs, Hammer, and inertia weight replaced, They were not stock.

I don't know who did all this poop, may have been more than one owner. The gentleman I bought this from may remember who he bought it from. I would REALLY like to know who the person is that took him and then me.

The only way to protect ourselves is buy new, or ONLY from someone you know. I keep every receipt and transfer them with the sale. If you know what parts has been bought, you can reverse engineer the problem.

Stop and think about this, a person buys a $18-2000.00 gun that don't need anything other than a trigger adjustment or a FPS tweek. Screws it all up and gets away with fkng us! I want his name. He owes me $450.00 bucks.

I have drafted this 3 times and deleted it because I don't want to here from the few in here that have opinions on why I was so ignorant. Well bring it on. That too may help bring our newer members up to speed.

Sorry you have a bad transaction, truly a sad situation!

I have bought and sold many times on this and other forums with good luck. There are always “bad people “ out there ready to take advantage of trusting members for their own benefits, but, we must stand strong and trust our membership for doing the right thing.

Please do not give up on the honesty and goodness that prevails here.

Situations like this can really make it hard for others to sell and it’s a dam shame that people screw others over and do it with no guilt whatsoever, so far I’ve been lucky with used airguns I’ve bought and everything I’ve sold has been factory stock and if I ever sold a airgun with mods I’d let the buyer know exactly what was done and list it in with the add.

Even if you get a good, solid, stock tier 1 gun for a decent price, you probably won't actually save anything.

I bought an Impact from AoA for $1500. Solid gun all the way through. Stock from the factory.

FX had "X" barrel upgrade kits available so I had to upgrade. Then I blew a couple O Rings, so embarked on a complete rebuild myself. By the time it was done, I've spent a bit more than a brand new gun.

Unless you are getting something like a 50% discount, probably better to just buy new. Then you get all the new upgrades and the warranty as well.

Still, the gun is solid, and really working well now.

I always leave feedback for folk on this forum that I have bought from. Always. So far, I have not gotten burned, except for 1, and that guy was not a member here. I also ask politely from folk that I sell to, to leave me seller feedback “good or bad” & always strive to earn a buyer’s respect.

I hope you left seller feedback if it was here. Sorry about the bad experience.

On this deal I'm into it for less than half of a new one. I have no problem with the seller. I am certain he had no idea of the issues. I just want members to be on guard buying used. Do the research as much as possible. This is a RAW HM1000X, there are so many options when ordering one, it is pretty difficult to pin down how it was ordered. ackurik could be right, they may have been trying to make a slug shooter out of it. I didn't replace the barrel yet I want to see how at shoots the 34gr ammo at long range first.

Granted the owner who did the work trying to convert to a slug shooter should have notified the next purchases, that's not to be excused in any way.

But what happened that the valve needed to be replaced? You had made a post prior to sending the gun off, that you were going to have the valve replace, right? Also not sure you can add the bottle to the price, right? Basically the work you did not expect was the barrel, bolt probe and hammer? Were those 3 things $450? If so I'm in the wrong business.

I didn't know the valve wasn't working right and the stem was bent. I didn't want to go to the expense of the valve and poly barrel to get to 900fps. He got it 880-885 with just the new valve and the 21" barrel, pretty good actually. The bottle was / is not of their standard offering. That was $250.00, over half yes. I expected to spend several hundred even at $ 450.00 I'm into a RAW for under $1000.00. I'm fine with that. The point of this is to make people think and do the research if buying used. Just because it's a top end gun don't mean someone didn't mess with it.

I have 10 pages of trader ratings on the old yellow. Never really got hurt.. I like to trust and feel trusted..Never bought used from plain strangers. These 2 things are my present guidelines. I don't buy guns from the second or third owner. Most of the time there is a reason others have passed it on... I never buy a gun a person is selling for some one else... Too much wiggle room there. Hope that does not sound too harsh but works for me. Brian Smith
