Buy a Dreamlite or save for an Impact?

I've been into air rifles for about 10 years. Started with a springer and kept upgrading along the way. My primary air rifle is a customized .22 Mrod G2 with LW barrel. It's pretty accurate and I love the gun.

For the last 4-5 years I've dreamed about owning an FX air rifle. When the Impact came out I was in heaven: the power, adjustability, accuracy and looks, but not the cost so I never bought one. Now that the Dreamline is being introduced I'm really thinking of buying the .22 Dreamlite. It has most of the featues I want and I nearly have enough saved for it but I'm wondering if I should save up longer and get the Impact.

I mostly shoot birds and ground squirrels with it an ranges from 10-100+ yards and would really like to be able to shoot slugs accurately. The shorter length and more shots from the 4500# reservoir are an advantage of the Impact but at nearly double the price. I've also heard that the Impact is leak-prone with all the o-rings. Maybe they have that worked out by now.

I'd like to know if you think I should buy the Dreamlite or save up for the Impact. Like I read on this site earlier: "buy once, cry once".

this IS the primary question. everyone is their OWN person. I myself have limited myself to a 1300-1400 max budget on any airgun. so an FX impact or daystate pulsar are out of the question for me. they don't shoot THAT much better than a 1300 dollar gun. unless you are shooting extreme benchrest i feel a 2000 or more gun is excessive, but that is ME. you need to put your mind and heart in the right place and the correct gun will present itself. not trying to be philosiphical but both these guns should be pretty awesome and whichever you choose , if it does not pan out, are easy to re sell at very good percent of original cost. i like simpler guns, so for me i favor dreamlite. but the final choice is yours of course, good luck!

My main concern with the Dreamlite is the FPE it can deliver. It advertises delivering 32fpe which is about 900fps with a JSB 18.1g pellet. If I'm wanting to shoot 21g slugs at a decent velocity I'm thinking I'll need more like 34-35fpe. Can the Dreamlite deliver this?

I think the FPE can be reached. My Wildcat 22 stock was shooting 920FPS at 33FPE with the 18g JSB. It has a 500mm barrel just like the Dreamline. You will need to turn up the reg and hammer spring a bit but it's doable. Oh, you will need the slug barrel too. I'm still waiting on the slug barrel myself.

I think FX makes great guns. I own 3. All accurate with no issues. BTW one of my guns is 2nd gen Impact .25cal I bought late 2017 and I have had zero leaks so far with more than 4000 probably closer to 5000 pellets through it. I bought the Impact fro AOA and they told me most problems with the Impact was cause buy user error. Fallow manufactures instructions and enjoy!

If you want to crank up the power on either gun, remember that the shot count will go down.

With the Impact already getting 100 shots out of the box, going to 60 or 70 isn't so bad. But with the smaller air cylinder of the DL, shot count could be pretty low.

Consider that when I maxed out the power on my Crown 22, I went down to 60 shots from 110. I did this so I could shoot slugs. If you're wanting to shoot slugs, you may want to consider that.

Also, the 21gr slugs may not be your best choice . Compared to 23gr, they are short and might not give the flight performance you need.

if you want that kind of power in 22, maybe consider a taipan veteran , big power and about $650 cheaper than impact, only drawback is rear cocking lever whereas FX has the side lever more forward that many people really like. Just something to think about.

Okay, I'll be the "odd man out" … got a Impact gen 1 with .22 and .25 barrels … a Wildcat MK1 in .25 … 2 Marauders, one in .22 and one in .25 … an Edgun R5M in .25 … a Vulcan Tactic in .25 … a Cricket in .25

I'll let you guess which one I would never part with.

WRONG!

It's the Vulcan Tactic. I'm not going to sway anyone with just my word and anyway everybody is different … but I will say this … you just have to shoot one to appreciate it. You can find people all over this forum who like or dislike almost every gun on this list … but I have yet to find someone that hasn't fallen in love with the Tactic and there really is a reason why!

everyone is different which makes these conversations difficult. I have the Impact in .25. Works like a dream. Bought used for $1500, If you buy the Impact, you will over time, need to replace a significant number of O-Rings. I just overhauled mine this winter and am waiting for better weather to do the tuning. I know it can throw the slugs at the speeds you require, not sure about the Dreamlines though. Probably, but if like the Marauder when going between a .22 and .30, the shot count will drop significantly. Marauder drops from 30 shots per in .22, to 16 shots per fill in .25. You will see similar drops when increasing power on any gun. The Impact has the larger tank so will give more shots per fill regardless of other adjustments.

Past that, I'm saving for a Dreamline Classic.

As for advice, save for the Impact. You'll be incredibly happy with a Dreamline, but always wonder how much better an Impact would have been. Both are capable, but you'll always wonder . . . . . . .

Lots of great opinions, I certainly agree ,butt sometimes you don't always get what you want, butt you get want you need..Seems I heard that somewhere before.....ask yourself..why....why can't this work for me?If you find it really can't work for you, then do what you have to = get something that will.My own experience; I can not wait,I get something I can get,I am happy....for a while and wished I saved to get what I really wanted, that said I do and did enjoy the less expensive alternative....so ask yourself how long is it going to take to save up for what you really want, plus you have plenty of other play things....so then that is your answer, just do it.
