Bushnell MatchPro ED 5-30x56mm FFP

I’d been aware of the Bushnell MatchPro scope line, but this is the first I’ve seen of the ED model. It also appears that Bushnell has improved upon some features in the original Matchpros. Here’s a link to check out the scope.

I have owned and extensively tested the DMR and DMR2 series , The performance was spot on the turrets were tactile and spot on on tall tall target testing and they always tracked perfectly , I know the DMR are older then this scope but I trust their optics and for bang for the buck are able to hang with the 2x to 3x price point of the German scopes , While the DRM scopes I believe their parallax was 50 yd min if my mind serves me correctly , the reticle can be used at lower powers and still see the hold points being they were all FFP ,and the illumination was crisp and daylight bright .

And one more... — Steve, you did a review of a scope I suspect to be a sister scope to the Bushnell (same manufacturer?):
The Vector Continental 5-30x56 FFP.

I would love to hear your opinion.... 😊

Matthias

Sorry Mathias I didn't do a review of that Vector. I meant to but was busy almost all year and got distracted with other stuff.

The short of it...
The VC 5-30 of mine has a reticle I like a lot because its all in .2 mil and has a big center dot.
The glass is okay but I had hoped for better. It's more on par with the Helos G2 in glass than the Midas TAC line.
The turret feel could be better I thought. These do not line up as well as on the Helos G2 turrets, have more lash, and are not as distinct.
But its lighter weight for a 5-30.
It focuses down to 10Y and isn't a bad scope at all so I'm keeping it.

This Bushnell appears to be a nice fully featured scope and for that price it doesn't seem like one could go wrong.
But I probably won't buy one. I might buy a Vortex G3 6-36 though :p:oops:

Definitely a Horus looking holdover reticle much like the H59.

I had 3 of the old original Bushnell 3.5-21 HDMR's with 5 mil turrets. These were good scopes and I won a bunch of long range steel matches with them but I gradually upgraded to S&B with H59 reticles. The worst thing about these HDMR's was the glass and that was one of the reasons I decided to upgrade.

A friend bought a Bushnell FFP scope a couple years ago, I think probably lower than match pro but maybe not and 1st gen, that I wasn't impressed with. But the 1st gen Helos wasn't that great either.

These less expensive G2 and G3 scopes seem to be getting better and better every year to stay competitive with all the other good brands which sure is good for all of us!

Wow, that all sounds very positive. Thanks! 👍🏼

One thing is irking me about that 5-30x scope — the min. parallax is stated to be 15y.
Sometimes, that's only the lowest number printed on the parallax turret — but the turret turns much further to eventually nearly 10y (without a number). Sometimes, it doesn't.
❓ I wonder what's the case with the parallax of the 5-30x....

(And before some of you descend upon me with arguments that I really don't need a 10y parallax with a scope that has a 30x magnification, well... — MY shooting scenarios DO call for 10y — and yes, most shooters would probably be fine with 15y.)

Totally agree with the minimum 10 yard parallax.

The comments below in general apply to Field Target shot in the US and does not apply to Hunter Field Target shot in the US (Hunter FT is shot at 16X mag and Hunter class field target shooters in the US are not allowed to touch their elevation turret during the match)

I know most folks who does not shoot Field Target does not understand why you need a high mag scope at 10 yards.

Field Target is a precision game and you need all the help you can get. Targets are set at unknown distances and usually, for the closer targets, its kill zones are teeny tiny.

The higher mag helps you determine distance. ie is it 10.4 yards ...10.6 yards etc. This helps you dial in your drop on your turret. Most high magnification scopes used in FT will be able to easily discriminate at least 0.2 yards = 7.2 inches when ranging distances between 10-15 yards. This may not sound like much. But most of the time (between 10-14 yards) we are aiming at 1/4" to 3/8" holes where fraction of an inch determines if it's a hit or a miss. Viewing a 1/4" - 3/8" KZ at 10 yard at 50 X magnification...the KZ looks as big as a grape - ping pong ball?....if you can hold that cross hair steady.
