Hey guys I’m looking into building my own gun by taking a bunch of manufactured parts and making something great with it. Do you know where I can find cheap wood to practice making stocks so if I mess up I don’t ruin a 150$ price of wood?
Here's an idea. Look at the MK1 and MK2 Airsporter stocks. The came out in 1948. See how the wood was glued up?
Also, you might find a local guy with a portable sawmill. That has some wood stashed away. Or some sell wood rough cut. etc. I've seen them advertise on Craigslist before. Go on CL and search "all categories" for walnut lumber. Sellers of "live edge" lumber are popular results. You don't want any sapwood! Live edge has sapwood. Try to get quarter sawn. They don't even have to be local. Lumber can be shipped! These are small businessmen.
You can glue up some plywood. I do it for other projects. Dry and stable so it's less likely to warp or crack. Easy to find from friends or Craigslist.
I remember buying a cheap $30-50 stock from crosman parts center to convert a 1377 into a rifle. The 13XX or the 2240 is a good platform to build a gun. Tons of aftermarket parts, easy to work on, and can be converted to hpa if you wanna go all out with the build
