"Budget" night optics?

Long time friend of mine has a rat problem on his 100 acre farm , would be nice to help him out, he busts his butt 7 days a week and is super great guy

Are there any "budget" friendly night optics out there people are using I quote the word budget because I know it's relative and don't expect someone to say ya go to harbor freight lol

Thanks in advance

One of these that you add to the back of the scope would likely be the least expensive.

Then there are the DIY budget types as well.

I would go with the ATN X-Sight 4K or if I wanted something a bit simpler and lighter the One Leaf.

Although my first was A DIY unit I built from scratch some years back and it werqed quite well.

I took a picture of the scope screen with my camera. This was in the pitch black basement at ten yards.

Depends what do you want? Do u want a stand alone night scope or a attachment to your own scope to use at night.

I prefer to use my own scope so I can use the mil dots for day and night. So I got the pard 007. It attached to the end of your scope to be able to use at night.

If you want a stand alone night scope then the pard 008 or the atn night sight 4k pro.

If you're Jeff Bezos, yes, sure, there's great selection. Take your pick.

If you're not, what's your budget?

"Active" night vision, i.e. things that need IR flashlights are reasonable. There's good quality scopes available at reasonable prices -- cheaper than most PCP rifles. biohazardman has the cheapest option that I know of.

If you want something fully integrated, ATN and Sightmark have pretty nice offerings. I went for the Sightmark Wraith Mini.

If you want passive night vision, most people would probably say you are now well out of the range of joe average's "budget".

Well, what do YOU mean by budget?

Id like to stay sub $1000, and have something thats reliable

Thank you, I was looking at the sightmark but never heard of the oneleaf, or a diy setup either.... this is completely new to me

I really like the idea of being able to stay "zero'd" and not swapping scopes ..... i am going to look into the pard 007

Under $1k, I would recommend the Sightmark Wraith 4k mini, I love mine. They run about $800. I had the wraith 4k as well but the mini was so much better sized that I sold the 4k and kept the mini.

I think the Pard 008 is pretty decent as well, I don’t have one but I know a guy who loves his in our local club. The Sightmark Wraith HD are decent as well.

If you run QD mounts you won’t lose your zero. I like using the Wraith sights in the day time as well, you can easily record video on them, day or night.

I have a night vision add on kit I bought on eBay and you can have it. It is worthless. I would buy a used sightmark.wraith $250 to$300. I have seen new wraith 2x on Amazon as low as $390.00 The sight mark wraith is reliable and you will be happy with the performance. The 2x version is what 99 % of people need. 4x is worthless under 50 yards.

A simple, good and powerful red light attached to your present scope can be very, very effective on rats. I've made hundreds of rat kills using one. Just don't miss too often to educate them, they only see or don't see the light but once, then they're dead under $100 USD. Here's an example on my next rat killing rig.

I agree with the red light for rats. I have a green light that probably wouldn't work as well as the red. But it's what I have. Mostly I hunt raccoons, and they don't care what you shine at them.

You don't need a bright flashlight with raccoons. It gets their attention, they look back at you and you've got a pair of shiny eyes to use as your target. Probably the brighter the flashlight, the more likely they would be to look away. Dim lights they'll stare at for minutes at a time.

Around here rats are pretty skittish so I haven't had much luck shooting them. Mostly resort to trapping.

I should also concur with AncientSword. The Wraith 4k Mini is pretty sweet. More features than I need, it's compact, and seems fantastic for pellet gun use.

In my yard the rats have too many things to hide under. A nice passive $5000 thermal scope would likely be a great help, to point out their heat signatures as they sit in the foliage. . . . but that's way too much money to just make culling the rat population a little more pleasant. My traps work pretty well.
