Bsa r10 se or aa s510 xtra?

Im at a standstill. Not real sure what to get?! I love the look of both. I can get both in walnut stock. The only feature the s510 has over the bsa is the power adjuster. Any opinions on either? I want a nice quality “ plinker”. All my other guns are pretty powerful I want something nice and easy to shoot. As of now, Im really leaning towards the bsa in .177

I have owned an S510 in .177 and it was a gem. Real accurate and smooth-and-easy to shoot. One of my buddies up at the Cowboy range really loved that rifle.

Mine was in black soft touch - Walnut would likely be much nicer. It worked faultlessly, and I like the AA mags (and their price, to get a couple extra). Didn't much care for the AA 'T-mount' fill adapter, but that was minor and you can change it out to a male Foster QD with parts from BestFittings UK. Power adjuster is always nice to have available. IIRC I shot most on medium power out to ~35 yards or so. Shot count was real good - around 60 IIRC. Mine loved the AA branded pellets best, but was fine with regular JSBs.

Have never owned a BSA. Have heard all of the regulator issue stories, maybe they are in the past, and there is always Huma. Cold hammer forged barrel is supposed to be the best. BSA magazines supposed to be real good. I just can't really purchase a gun with a standard bolt action after having used side levers. I even sold my Daystate Huntsman because I didn't shoot it much since it was bolt action.

I have owned both and both are very accurate guns. The side lever on the 510 is nicer than a bolt. The stock on the bsa was a little fat for my hands. Both guns are a little on the long side especially if you add a moderator, but you can remove the shroud on the bsa and thread on a moderator and it shortens it nicely which is what I did. Other than that they both are very nice high quality air guns. Good luck.

You aren't going to easily find a better barrel than the BSA one.
It would be a no contest decision for me. I prefer a bolt over a sidelever anyway.
Only AA's I want is the springers with older 12 L&G non pellet picky tack drivers. I've never liked the AA PCP's I've owned as much as others.

Im a bolt guy myself too. That was one of the things I liked about the bsa.

I think you'll be happy with either. Both are solid guns but the AA is a bit more refined.

The BSA R-10 MKIs had reg issues but the SE are fine until they go bad which shouldn't be for a long time. My MKI reg lasted 8 years then I replaced it with a HuMa.

Both are easy to work on as well should anything go wrong

BSA released today their CLX Ultra which has a new monoblock action. AOA will be importing them. In a video they said theyd be in shops at then end of March. BSA haven't said much about the monoblock yet but it has less parts and uses a stainless steel bolt. They had milked the MMC action to the ground so glad to see theyve done some R&D.

I’d pick Air Arms if we’re me. One of my personal favorite PCP is my Air Arms 410 XTRA Fac .22 LH Bolt Action. Gun is a laser, starlings sure hate it lol.

BSA guns are great to, I used to have few- regret selling them - Either one you pick, both are good guns.

You need a power adjuster for tuning the gun.

If only that bsa had some type of transfer port power adjuster it would be perfect! How good is the one on the s510? I heard the aa doesnt have any way to adjust the hammer spring. I love tuning and making custom parts but I want this one stock for the most part. Drop in parts would be ok, like a huma, or anything that I dont need to modify the gun.

I’ve got both. I shoot HFT with both. I can only speak to my experience with them in this arena.

BSA 4 years old

AA 6 months old

Both guns are “out of the box” except for hammer spring/power adjustments for velocity control

Both guns fill to 250 bar.
Both guns are adjusted to shoot 10g pellets @ 850fps

AA 70 shots before it falls off the reg.

BSA 50 shots before if falls off the reg.

Both guns trigger breaks like glass.
AA is better balanced for shooting forced positions.
BSA groups are sub 1” at 55 yards

AA groups are sub 1-1/2” at 55 yards

you can’t go wrong with either IMO.
Or do like I did and get both....

THE 177 BROCOCK WILL SPANK THEM SILLY IN THE ACCURACY DEPT.

Only negative the mags may not line up perfect probably 60/40 good/bad but CARM is perfect.
