BSA Buccaneer 25 Cal

Could my hatsan air stripper on the end have something to do with the "CRACK", It's definitely not backyard friendly. After I shot it, maybe for the third time (waiting to go to the range since I bought it), I Immediately put it away and waited for the authorities to show up, they didn't. It has no mods except the before mentioned air stripper. I live in the burbs of Virginia, where airguns laws in the counties are pretty much non-existent, but taking care of Mom in the city!

Your stripper will have zero effect on noise. The Buccaneer is a loud gun unmoderated. If you were able to crank it up to be super-sonic with light pellets, it will still crack, even with a moderator. If you want a quieter gun, turf the air stripper and screw on a moderator. I think that I may have given you this advice before. I hope it sinks in this time.

Mine (25 Cal ) still cracks the sound barrier with 25 caliber NSA Boatails! Not backyard friendly, have to go to the range to shoot. Just shot into the ground tonight, sounded like a 22 rimfire,, was waiting for the cops to show up since I'm in the city. You guys that are saying this is impossible don't understand!!!!!!

Youre getting 1120-1150fps (or more) with what weight?

For reference NSA's lightest boat tail in .25 that I see is 52 grains, 52gr at 1120 (roughly sound barrier) is 144FPE, if you're talking about something around 34gr that's still 94fpe. Being a loud gun, and breaking the sound barrier are different things. I hope you know the difference.

What you are hearing is the muzzle blast the gun is making as you shoot it. It is typical for unmoderated PCP guns

and may even sound like shooting a 22 rimfire in some cases.

Some guns are naturally louder than others. Get a moderator/LDC/CAN/Pickle for it if you need it quiet.

My unmoderated BSA Buccaneer is louder than my unmoderated Benjamin Discovery(very similar to the Maximus) FYI.

And, YES absolutely an air stripper "can" make an airgun MUCH louder! The perfect example of this is the "t break" timmy used on the usft, single loudest airgun ever, take the stripper and just a normal airgun. If close enough tolerance is held and you turn the air 90% ( or such) with your break stripper it's a loud as using Helium.

You can't identify breaking the sound barrier by sound alone, pcp's unmoderated are VERY loud...80-90+ db's loud...they make a large crack even at 800 fps...

Why not share what speeds you've obtained shooting these over the Chronograph?

I have a .25 cal marauder ported almost full bore and I still can't send 19.91 gr super sonic, I am limited to around 1050~ FPS....you either seem to be blowing smoke you just don't know any better...JMO..

according to pyramydair this gun speed is 800 fps with alloy pellets and 650 fps with lead pellets....
