Brown Santa Came today!

The long awaited Crown came in the mail today. I checked every fastener and cleaned the barrel. You guys are getting to see her all set up before I have even had a chance to sight in the scope.

This is a new Crown in .25 cal, gray laminate stock, Hawke Sidewinder 8-36x56, Atlas Bi-pod. Test ticket from AoA says it is shooting an average 908.
Here is why you clean them from the factory. These are the first 3 patches through. Number 1 is on the left. Both sides of the patch are black like that. It HAS to be something from the factory to protect the barrel. I don't recall ever seeing lead being that black.

With the barrel clean and not seasoned, these are the first mag out of the gun at 30 yards. I have no doubt this will improve over a little time. I shot with just the bi-pod and it was nearly dark. So this was just kind of a rush job to get the first few down the pipe to get ready for tomorrow when I can actually see :) But it looks really promising.

My wife lost me to the garage for a couple of hours. Imagine that? Got out and shot 70 shots over the chrono just to see how the reg was behaving. I shot this in fairly rapid succession just trying to give the reg a little workout. I filled to 230 bar instead of 250 and shot down until it went off reg at 125 bar which is where it is set.
I know the gauge is probably meaningless as far as a real number, but whatever that value stands for, when the bar gauge reached that value, I consider it off the reg. Funny though, the fps didn't change right there. I bet I could have gotten 20 more shots or so. I only got 68 on the graph because I had a couple of errors at the beginning. But it did the job giving me the information I was looking for.
Looks like the reg needs to break in just a bit. And even though I was shooting into my box of rubber mulch (this stuff is a fantastic pellet stop), I could still hear one heck of a whack. Not to mention it was moving the box around a bit. Only about 46 fpe but it sounds and looks like a lot more than that.

Sorry. Snip would only grab what is onscreen so I couldn't scroll down to get the rest of the shots. But the chart shows them.

I do think this is a little louder than I would like it to be. I pulled the shroud forward to "quiet" mode. Still a bit barky. Something tells me I might be calling up Sumo boys to make me something to fit this Crown. But not too soon. I sort of like the way she looks right now. (makes me think of an old song, "I like the way she looks, she's my best friends girl. But she used to be mine,") Oh great, now that song is stuck in my head.. LOL

Looks like it is starting to settle in. I'm getting about 908 avg with the 25's and about 804 with the 34's. But with either, the groups are getting tighter as the reg and barrel break in. I have maybe 150 shots through it at this point. My weekend is so busy I probably won't get out the field with it until next week.

Here are some examples of what she is doing. This is a group of the 25's at the top, 10 shots (I was shooting at the intersection of the line with the circle). It was much tighter until I had the one flier low and left. And then another 10 shot group with the heavies. That is no hold over for the extra drop of the heavy pellet. But the group is pretty amazing. That hole is barely over .25 from side to side. So CTC must be pretty small.

And this is what I don't like about the shoot-n-see targets. The black comes off areas you haven't hit. This is one of the best groups but the effect is spoiled by all the yellow. This is 10 shots. Looks like 3 I know. But it is 10.
