Brocock Concept XR...Still amazing me

So, after months of research and going back and forth, I finally pulled the trigger and purchased my second PCP (Cayden was first).

I wanted something lighter and not as long for hunting. The Concept XR won me over (Thanks to all the You Tube guys who made review video's, I watched them many times over)

The Brocock reputation swung me over, along with the design of the gun, I'm not a big bulbous bottle fan, so the slim line tube air reservoir was what I leaned towards.

I'm an AR guy, I've got so much time on them that they are just a natural favorite for me, and this one has that style. I like a wood gun, but for Hunting, I want something I can bang around and not worry about dinging or scratching the wood.

I purchased this from Mundilar Airguns in Portugal. They had a fantastic price and even with the UPS shipping (Which left on the 18th and arrived today). No one had any in stock in the .22 Cal I wanted, and I emailed Mundilar to check to insure this was a full power Airgun, they were responsive and great to deal with, I can recommend them with no reservations.

It was double boxed and had plastic banding straps around both sides. Showed up in perfect condition.

The gun felt great, solid and well built. The lever action on it is fantastic. very effortless to cock. It did come with the older style Magazine, which I'm fine with. One nice surprise...it came with a folding stock. I had not expected that at all.

The trigger initially out of the box is pretty good. I do not have a trigger pull weight scale, but if I had to guess, the second stage is around 1.5 lbs. I know some of the folks who have them were a bit disappointed with the triggers initially, but for a hunting gun, I think it's pretty good, and I've seen enough info on how to adjust it, and later down the road, I may disassemble the trigger and do some stoning on the engagement surfaces, but for now, I'll leave it alone.

I did remove the barrel shroud and preceded to clean out the barrel with a pull rope and some patches of Ballistol. Surprisingly, the patches were not that dirty. So I pulled some clean and dry ones thru and re-installed the shroud.

I just put my scope on it (I chose a Veyron 3-12 SFP) with adjustable height mounts that work on the Dovetail.

I may replace the stock with a SOPMOD AR stock as I'm a big fan of those, and the added weight may make it balance better, too soon to tell.

The Pistol grip that comes with it is fine, but I may change that up too. but for now, I'll leave it.

I tried the lever safety and while I've never been a fan of that type of safety, close to the trigger, but upon trying it, it's actually not bad at all. The motion to disengage is actually not as horrid as I initially thought. Re-engaging it, you have to either come around the front side, or use your none firing hand to place it back on safe. Not great...not terrible, I would prefer the AR style selector switch, but I can live with it.

I also chose this model as I like and wanted the Pic rails. Again, it's back to my comfort with rails and the ability to customize. I want to add a sling to this and have a rail on the front will allow be to add a QD point for my sling. Unused portions of the rail will get my favorite rail covers (Magpul Type 2 covers). I can also add a Bipod for a day at the range for a little more precision, and I can also add a light if I want to do a little night varmint hunting.

Once I finish leveling/mounting the scope and air it up and get an initial zero, I'll add more

Got the same one in .25..it is not backyard friendly ,handles great ,build is solid, you could call it a truck gun if you have a nice truck.

It is Not that lefty friendly, need high mounts for my crossover move, can do it while shouldering.

I think it is a great hunting PCP,accuracy is good,it has a adjustable power and it points and shoulders good.

It is purpose built hunting or just fun semi bull-pup.the stock is adjustable...mine does not fold,I do think the stocks are interchangeable or the newer model is folding and adjustable...do not know..

Just slapped on a few things to try them out, I added my Moderator (a .25 Huma) a SOPMOD stock and a sling along with a sling QD mount up front on the rail.

I'm a big fan of the SOPMOD stock and it holds 6 CR123 batteries, which now makes the gun a bit heavy on the stock end, I'm thinking, pulling the batteries out should balance it out to just about perfect. if so, I'm ordering a B5 stock (model without the battery tubes)

WHOLLY CRAP!!! Did I choose well.....

So I aired it up to 250bar...load up 3 14.3 gr. Crossman hollow points.... settled in on my table down in the basement. took aim on a cheap shoot an see target and squeezed off 3.. one ragged little hole...

Make a few adjustments..., a few more and then three more on the X

At this point I'm pretty excited, as I was hoping the 14.3 gr Crossmans would shoot well as I stockpiled enough to Free the Ukraine...

So I change out the target and settle in a 5 shots and

One ragged little hole at 10 meters (My max range)

And with the Huma Moderator, the first shot was so quiet, I thought maybe the power was turned down, So I checked. nope, full power.

Brocock, you guys know how to make an Airgun....

Next step is to get outside and stretch its legs.

So, I rigged up my Caldwell Chrony just to get some rough numbers, The thing is still so quiet that I still felt it was not the full power version...

So, on high power...895-905 fps

next setting below...835-850 fps

next lower setting...790-795

and on the low setting...595-605 fps

all shooting the Crossman 14.3 gr HP's

The 28th is the last day of Rabbit season, so I think I'll take it out just to get out.

I headed out this morning for the final day of rabbit season (Squirrel closed 2/28). I didn't really expect to get one, but i wanted to go out with the new gun and see how she handled. I definitely chose well, as the gun was light and well balanced and worked well with all my gear.

I also adjusted my zero and then confirmed. I got bored and made a couple of 50 yd shots at a pinecone and hit it. this thing is a laser.

I have a new pistol grip and B5 SOPMOD stock coming in Wednesday and two spare magazines along with some slugs coming in tomorrow.

So I have yet to hit the range, so still relegated to the 10meter basement range. So I thought I would check different pellets out. All were shot with the power level at one click below the full setting. so about 830-850 fps.

This gun still makes me smile when I shoot it. The vector Veyron 3-12x is working great and it still stacks pellets. with one exception... the Excite 13 gr pellets. Worst pellet ever... Each 5 shot group is like a shotgun pattern. They did the same think in my Cayden. The very first shot was way to the left , outside the box, and then the next 4 just wandered around. I bought 4 of those tins when Midway USA had a sale going.

Luckily, I have been ordering 4 tins per order of the 500 count of the HP14.3gr Crossman pellets when ever Amazon has them for $6.49 a tin.

I hope to get outdoors in the next few weeks to see what it will do at 25 and 50 yds and then 100 yds. I'll get some Chrony numbers as well. I still use the Huma 40mm Moderator as it keeps in super quiet down in the basement, but I have a 0db 110 moderator I picked up for use outside to keep the length short and the weight down.

Brocock, you guys know how to build an airgun!!!
