Finally decided to get the hell out of the house and into the great outdoors. Heard about this Army Corps of Engineer airgun range in Northern Sonoma county at Lake Sonoma. Took the wife, my RWS 34 .22 with open sights, and my Toy Fox Terrier Chloe on a 54 mile journey to the lake. I get there and make the 1/10 mile walk to the range only to run into two guys that I worked with (fellow state of California employees) at the range. They say this ball we live on is 8K miles in diameter but it felt like it was only one mile. Talk about a small world ! LOL ! Anyway, they were with another guy as well. One was shooting a FX MKII in .22 cal. My ex boss was shooting a Gamo Whisper .22 and the other guy was shooting a breakbarrel Ruger (similar to the 34) with a scope. I haven't shot open sights in years due to blindness. LOL ! I had to use some 1X reading glasses in order to have some ability to shoot. The Tri-Glo sights did help. The range goes out to 70 yards with different types of targets. Animal silhouette, spinners, and bell on chain targets were the main targets. I was doing pretty good with sights out to 30 yards. The Sig Venom pellets at 14.5gr were quite accurate and outshined the RWS Superdomes also at 14.5 gr. I was whacking a 5" gong at 40 yrds regularly. I started off seeing what I could do at 10M to dial the gun in. Next time my ASP20 will go. The guys were impressed how well a blind man can shoot. I must say that FX MKII accuracy and silence was something to behold !
10M. 5 shot first group. To the left. I think that dot was at least 1" diameter for sure. Maybe 1.5"
After making adjustments.
Other pics. Me (the old fart in the picture) making sight adjustments and shooting. Wish I'd packed my sandbags. Hate leaning over like that. My shoulder is bruised from that plastic butt plate.
Some range pics and the guys I meet up with. The place is a tinderbox. Very dry ! Not looking forward to another Northern California wildfire season.
And some of Chloe along the trail. The wifey didn't want her picture taken.
