Boar Hog caught in a Rainstorm, ......with new penetration Info, (big Surprise)

Today I was hunting a thick Jungle river bottom, My rifle of choice was my .22 Rainstorm in a shorty configuration shooting the 28gr EunJin in the 55+ FPE range.
This little, light rifle is a Pleasure to have in this kinds of hunts.






After a few Hours I finally heard something, I heard it but couldn't locate it, the trades where blowing strong in my face so I took my time, I just couldn't find it and than all of a sudden I got eyes on it and I was stocked to see a Cocky, young, healthy red Boar.

The final stalk took sometime but when I got to a good spot I sat in the ground, got my elbows on my knees, braced the rifle against a tree and got ready, at 1st he was quartering away but as soon as he turned broadside I let the EunJin go.















What made the hunt even sweeter is that this was the 1st Porker taken by this .22 Rainstorm

Well, it seems like a lot of kills, but the last one was over a month ago.

In any case, I have many people always waiting for some wild meat, I like to give it away so I can taste the way they cook it, they always bring me some

Well, that really depends, not all .22s are the same,
if your FX .22 is in the 30 FPE range and you shoot JSB out of it than I would stay away from hog hunting

My fx royale 500 is a .25 cal shooting 49 fpe on high power .I had concerns of being able to penetrate the skull of a larger hog .What pellet do You prefer in 25 cal ?

The heavier & the harder the better. If your Royale 500 will shoot the Benjamin Domes then thats your pellet. The Benjamin Domes are made from an alloy, not just pure soft lead. I can also recommend the H&N Barracuda's. I've taken hogs with both of those pellets. JSB's are the softest/lightest of the 3. Manny really likes Eujin pellets as well, but I don't have any experience with them.

Equally important is shot placement. I usually try to shoot 1/2 way between the eye & the ear (temple). Or if the boar is facing you (with its head down) you aim about 1 inch above the eyes. It helps to be in an elevated position as well. Manny taught me most of what I know so I have to give credit where it is due.

OK than, you have enough juice there if you stay close,
Definitely try the Benjamin Dome and H&N Baracuda, better skull penetrating pellets and should raise you FPE a tad too.

Thanks for the replies Guys .Feral hogs are becoming a problem in eastern NC .The FX was purchased to shoot squirrels and predators and practice around the house.after shooting this rifle I am amazed at the accuracy .I was thinking it could open some doors to shoot predators and swine where powder burners are not welcome. I would invest in an other rifle, not necessary a big bore you can stay in .25 cal, but maybe something with a bit more FPE just for insurance,
keep the FX for precision shooting with the JSB and put a few hundreds towards a dedicated Hogs Hammer

So, the other day I was up the mountain and recovered the skull.

I was extremely surprised the .22 pellet got through both sides of the skull.

this is a deadly hunting combo for sure

Thank you brother, I too was very surprised when I noticed the exit hole on the other side of the skull.

Been saying for a long time, when going for the brain shot I rather have a smaller caliber, it did prove pretty spot on on this porker.

My hat's off to you, Manny, you've opened my eyes as to what an airgun in the right skilled hands can do! Where I live the pests don't get anywhere near as big
One question though, how far away from your target were you? What is your favourite "hog hammer"? I'm guessing Sumatra but what cal?

I think the shot was in the -/+ 20 yards range.

I think I have to put the Sumatra Carbine .25 on the top of the list, super short and light for easy handling, extremely flexible both with ammo ( this guns aren't pellet picky and shoot just about everything well ) ...and with the power, ( you can really dial that power to your specific needs on the fly )

A Neil Clague LDC makes them pretty Quiet.
