Blair County Pa new Springer Air rifle Group

The Double Tap Indoor Range has offered the use of their beautiful indoor archery range for Springer Air rifle matches. We can shoot up to 25 yds and reconfigure distances easily. If you have interest please contact me. I shot here all winter, its first class. The owners are very interested in promoting the shooting sports. Here is a chance to get something started with airgun but it's up to all you out there to be willing to participate. Right now you can shoot 7 days a week indoors in a beautiful facility for 15.00 per month. We are looking to have benchrest matches, come help us set up formats that will be fun and challenging. Range is located in Altoona, Pa. Feel free to call me, Jeff Gates 814_932-1390 . Get on the Double Tap website for pictures. Ok, hope to see you Tues at 6:00 at Three Valley Sportsmen for the final winter match, get in their website for info including copies of targets. This week will be 6 three shot groups averaged together. Great group, good food, what's not to like. I am not affiliated with Double Tap, just a shooter hoping to get some airgun matches started. So, put up or shut up.

If I may ask, Why only springer rifles? We have been having benchrest shoots at Sherwood Archery club for seven years and the participation from the springer guys has been VERY limited, maybe 3 or 4 shooters out of the normal 30 or so in attendance. I would think you will limiting your ability to grow your attendance if you limit it to just springers. Good Luck in your venture, Hope you are successful. J.L.

Whitefox, thanks for the input. Right now backstop wise using the archery range high powered PCPs are not an option but that might change.. We know there are spring shooters out there as a Spotsmens club 15 miles away has been shooting all winter getting 15 or so Springer shooters. We are trying to get something going following up on that as they are done now until next winter. I have pretty deep involvement with centerfire bench shooter in the area and hoping to get more of them involved. Springers are actually, at least for me, much harder to master than powder burners but, no reloading, no cleaning, very inexpensive components and they are available.

Keep in mind that USARB (The official Air gun benchrest organization in the U.S A.) is limited to .177 or .22 with no more than a 20 Ft Lb. limit. So no worries about high powered Air guns indoors if you want to have sanctioned matches. You can check out the rules on their web site if you care to (United States Air Rifle Benchrest Asoc). The dues are only $25.00 per year for your club to join and you get scoring plugs and a scoring board to use with the official targets that are available only from them at a reasonable cost. Just a thought, not trying to get you to do something you don't want to do! Good luck in your venture. J.L.
