Big Iguanas

Hey Bill!

With my .25 wildcat, I mainly use 25 grain JSB.. those are lights out 100% headshot, 900+ fps..

Ive also used my 22, slinging JSB 18grain, around 850+ fps.

It really doesn't matter what caliber you use, just make sure your gun is accurate + 850+ fps so you can hit the iguana right behind the ears. Then its lights out.

My buddy "slapahondn" uses an Fx streamline in .22.. knocks them out 1 shot. he's in the 900s+ fps.

Here is a little group we tried to keep cool for eating, dang it was hot that day. I felt like I did the best shooting with the JSB heavies .25 caliber behind eye ball. I only shoot .30 cal now. I think we took out 500 in two days on that trip. I forgot about that monster Scott is holding in above pic. (Limb cracker on way down). Never know what your grabbing when you reach into the tall grass here.

Shot placement is 99%. I use to get them all the time with a .177 break barrel. My current gun is a .22 streamline shooting hades right at 900 fps. I shot a large iguana in the head at about 40 yards last week and the pellet went straight through its skull. Yes you can shoot bigger and faster slugs and pellets but I feel it's not really necessary.

Love this post, wow bunch of iguana hunters on this channel!!

My take:

Accuracy first! Try to find the best accurate pellet you can.

Try to use a pellet that will expand, it will be more forgiving if your shot move a bit

Aim behind the eye, in the eye will do too. Recently I've taken some with heart shots, for this, aim on top of the front leg but a bit towards the front, just a bit. The heart shot is tricky, some times the iguana won't even know it was shot and it can walk away, but will fall after a few meters.

If you hit the heart or the brain, caliber doesn't matter, but at distance a small caliber is more challenging for this, because power retention and accuracy.

.22 hades and Polymags were doing really well on Steve's gun. I've always used .25 but I'm thinking buying the .22 barrel kit any tune the gun down for close range. I'm trying to eliminate pass through. I'm rarely shooting pass 70 yards

Hope this helps
