Here around the rancho I take about 50 ground squirrels every year, including (and with compliments) some for the neighbors. It was rainy here today, and they don't like rain. But late in the afternoon it cleared and I went out for a look. This guy was out in the open but when he spotted me he ducked into some shrubs. Soon he popped his head up and I popped his head with my RAW HM1000.

Biggest I've seen. Brought him home and laid him out near the house - hopefully a meal for one of the bobcats who live around here.

Excellent patience and shot with your RAW! Nice pics and are you sure your resident ground squirrels aren't cross breeding with some ghogs........that's a seriously big GS.

I wonder if we're going to have a bumper crop this year? Right now, next Friday looks like it might be a good day, sunny and warmer, Thursday is a possibility, here in the Santa Clara Valley.
