I am looking to find the best slug size for the avenger. And leaning towards lighter slugs. So far the nsa .217 24gr are pretty tight loading into the breach and have had jams. Saw Zans new 20gr and was thinking of trying just not sure . 217 or .218. I don’t want to be stuck with more slugs that are to tight.

FYI, I am testing NSA .216 23gr, FX .217 22gr, and H&N .218 21gr slugs and also looking for what works. In my 25cal Avenger I’m testing NSA .250 36.2gr slugs as well. It seems important to me to eliminate any slug that is undersize to your bores groove diameter after slugging and measuring them.
As slugs present more bore friction than pellets do I think it will be important to have a longer probe on your rifle to ensure complete engraving on the slug/rifling when loading. I haven’t done this yet but I think lubrication of both bore and slugs with the modern polymers will help to improve muzzle velocities.

218 H&Ns were really tight in my Avenger but shot really well. I was actually shooting the 36gr hp at like 650fps and they were shooting almost MOA.

My avenger .22 likes the nsa’s in .2165 . It liked 17/5,20.2,and the 23 . I haven’t tried heavier yet . I had a lot of jam issues with the .217’s . H&N slugs it didn’t Seem to mind the size, I believe bc h&n uses lube on there’s.
