Best Slug Gun

I was planning on purchasing a 25 cal maverick for long range hunting with slugs but have been waiting on the pre order list for a little over a month now and got an update to from UA that it’d be another month to two months. They were curious if i’d just like to upgrade to an impact. My goal is to be able to hunt at longe range with slugs as stated above and as far as I know the impact is the best gun for that so I was planning on taking up the offer and paying the extra $ to get an impact but was curious if anyone thought waiting for the maverick or looking into other guns such as the crown or RAW would be worth it. Any advice is much appreciated it. I should also state I have 1400 in store credit after trading in my taipan and a scope so taipan isn’t really an option (not that I really think it would be though if we’re talking slug guns).

My only big boy airgun is my .25cal MKII Impact with the power plenum and 700 mm barrel so that is all I can speak to. I’ve had zero issues with mine except for the usual self imposed screw up or two. I got mine with an upgraded transfer port and pellet probe so you may want to look into some similar power upgrades if you buy one. I enjoy testing and tweaking this gun to no end. If I screw something up I can fix it or replace a part. It can send the 34 grain slugs as fast as they need to go at 145 bar. I haven’t shot any of the heavier slugs yet but I’m sure I can get the 36 grainers going at around 950fps or so. If I need to up the reg pressure then so be it.
The gun is as accurate and reliable as I could have imagined if not more. There are plenty of wonderful folks on this forum that you can learn from especially on the Impact platform. If I were to do it again I would have been more persistent with my seller in upgrading the bottle to the 580cc variant. I think the full sized bottle guns just look better with the larger bottle not to mention the obvious increase in shot count.
I would absolutely recommend the Impact. If you have any questions, feel free to message me for more info.
Best wishes.

Owning both, each has its +/-.

The adjustable valve on the impact...amazing if you love tuning/changing ammo/barrels/etc.

The maverick, all the accuracy, tight fps spread...but it's a frankenstein of mostly wildcat/dreamline parts, from what I can tell. It's mainly wildcat with a giant plenum and dreamline front bottle adapter...all shoved into a metal chassis that we still couldn't get a usable pic rail 😂

Personally, the impact sets up just a little better for me feel-wise. Main reason, position of the charge handle. Impact's is right there when you move your hand up. The mavericks is set further back towards the rear.

Overall, the impact is easier to adjust to fine tune/change things up. The maverick is more of a find a good pellet/slug, set it, get it blanced, leave it and enjoy rock solid accuracy.

Maverick is easier to maintenance with just really the rear block in play. Impact...well, hope you like orings...a lot. The maverick has a thing with eating the neck of your cf bottle if the bottle block isn't set square. Easy to check for and super easy to fix.

If I had to choose one only...impact for me. But I like to tinker and I'm not afraid to rip things apart. If you're more of a set it and forget it guy...not much more you could ask for with the maverick.

Oh, and right now my impact is setup with the 500mm barrel tuned just this past weekend for howler slugs at 980fps, sub moa out to 50 (too cold to sit outside and shoot 75+). My maverick is in love with the new NSA 34.9gr dish base at 944fps. Between a .3-.39" group at 50y...mostly hole in hole til I screw up a shot.

That’s the exact model and upgrades I was wanting to get with mine so this was perfect, my knowledge on adjusting the guns is lacking considering my previous gun was a taipan so learning all that would be a bit new to me but there’s plenty of helpful people on here and tons of good youtube videos so I don’t think it’d be too much of a problem. Something that surprised me was your comment about 145 bar being enough to launch ur slugs at the right speed. I plan on shooting slugs around 34 grain anywhere from 930-1000 fps depending on where I get the best accuracy and was surprised 145 bar was enough for that. Was planning to have them set the reg at 155 or 160 but if 145 is enough that’s perfect. What kind of accuracy are you achieving with that setup and what slugs are you shooting, also how many shots per fil? About the bottle, is 580cc not the stock bottle that comes with it? Where would I upgrade to that?

The other guys have summed it up perfectly, I won’t elaborate anymore on what they’ve already covered. I just wanted to add that the Crown is a phenomenal air gun and the RAW is also a tried and true platform. It is reliable, accurate, easy to work on and a joy to shoot. It isn’t quite as powerful as the Maverick or Impact but it does shoot the 33.5gr. NSA slugs very well at about 930fps. It also shoots the JSB King Heavies as accurate as you could hope for at about 900fps. I’d say the Crown, RAW and Maverick are kind of set it and forget it guns while the Impact is great for switching projectiles, calibers or modifying for “more”.

You’ll be happy with any of them.

Thank you Stoti, it was very cool getting a response from you, I love reading your replies on others post as it seems you have an extreme amount of knowledge that I hope to achieve one day. I know this might be a very hard question to ask but if you could only have one of the guns listed for shooting slugs which would you choose? The crown in the new chassis is such a cool gun but i’ve heard it lacks the power of the impact. The RAW seems like a tried and true platform but i’m somewhat scared of buying something that isn’t as “popular” as the impact, meaning just not as much help and not sure about its long rage abilities compared to the impact. It also looks a little big and heavy for walking around with and hunting. When it comes to the maverick I see no reason why I shouldn’t just spend an extra 300 or so and get the impact if it is all around a better gun for long range slug hunting. Thank you for your time and help it is very appreciated. Being 18 I don’t have a ton of money to throw around so hoping to make the most out of what I do spend.

IMPACT! Not a hard question at all. I love the adjustability(hammer spring pre load, power wheel, regulator and valve adjuster) which really helps when tuning the gun for different slugs, pellets, velocities, etc. I also love the massive magazine capacity, modularity, plethora of aftermarket parts and accessories, the accuracy, power, shot count, and support in the form of videos, access to Ernest and Newman at FX and all the other knowledgeable people that are willing to help when you need it.

The RAW is a phenomenal gun, there may not be as much online support and such but it really isn’t as necessary. It’s pretty simple to adjust and maintain. It always works and is always accurate. Set it and forget it. It is a great gun. If not for the Impact, I’d be shooting it all the time.

There are a gazillion Impacts out there because people love them. I’m one of those people, it has a lot to offer. You want me to tell you what you want to hear? BUY THE IMPACT! 😂

Have a good one. Stoti
