Best & Safe Backyard Vermin Rifle?

Hw44 in .177 would be my recommendation if budget is not a problem. If you want to keep it cheap a detuned gamo urban in 22 could be had for as low as 200... they are super easy to detune and with the trigger mod are actually pretty respectable to shoot. Mine does 70 shots 3000 to 2000psi fill at 13.5 ft/lbs and is an absolute tack driver w the bsa barrel and jsb 18's. Hades have darn near as good accuracy as the 18's and would help minimize the pass through as well...

177 Benjamin Maximus with a TKO LDC back the power down to 12fpe. From Crosman 25% off AGN Discount code and free ship order on Fridays. 5 year warranty only 2000psi maximum pressure to fill up.

I JUST PAID $300 (yeah yeah way way more than for a new one BUT!!!) for a hot rodded 177 that gets nickle sized groups at 80 yards. Aftermarket Parts alone worth that much so sounded good to me.

While I own a couple PCP's, they ain't the be all, end all of airgunning. I took both these little vermin yesterday at 20 yards and about 30 seconds apart with a Beeman R7 .20. Took the chipper first and while the squirrel was sitting there watching him do his death twitch, I was reloading and took the squirrel with a shot to the back of his head.

Quiet, deadly and definitely wasn't a Chinese rifle...lol.

As has already been said, pretty much any sub12fpe airgun will dispatch a squirrel out to 40yards. Shot placement is more critical with lower power, the most effective is head shot between eye and ear. Squirrel fidget so don’t sit still for long, to increase your chances of a clean kill we in the uk use a feeder similar to this that has a metal plate to act as a backstop after the pellet has passed through

My hunting preference a pcp in 20 or .22 but .177 or .25 Or a springer will serve equally well.
