Best money I ever spent in airgunning.

430L cocking effort ENORMOUS? Not hardly, IMO. Maybe a little heavy but certainly not too bad. And the problem with the Hawke may well be your eyes. My eyes are changing rapidly now that I am beyond 60 and getting initial focus correct is becoming more and more critical. Follow correct procedure for setting eyepiece focus and that may well help. I like Hawke scopes and have several. I recently purchased a Vortex Diamondback Tactical and mounted it on a Pulsar but I haven't shot with it yet. It seems clear and solid but so do my Hawke scopes.

I was tempted by the D430...but, I already had a nice D460 in .22 which Motorhead had tuned down to where it was very pleasant to shoot. Plus, as far as I know, the 430 isn't made in .22, which is my caliber of choice! Many have reported a high cocking effort with both rifles, which Scott took care of for me with the 460.

I have both. The cocking effort on the D460 is probably the heaviest I've personally ever seen on a rifle. The cocking stroke on the 430 is a good 30 degrees less and a bit stout at the beginning. The 460 lightens up a bit towards the bottom.

I had my 460 and model 48 out this evening. Looks like they need some love. Target was not worth showing.
