Best ammo for HW95 .22

H&N FTT's

Couple years back I found the .22 caliber R9/HW95 to have an over size barrel and a larger head size was needed for better accuracy. In using FTT's I found the 5.54 and 5.55 head size to shot best. Can't speak for today's offering. With that said I prefer the R9/ HW95 platform in .20 caliber mainly because I found it to be more accurate in my experience.

My 95 is from AoA's $299.99 sale a few years back and I found the same in mine. 5.53's fit slightly loose and shot ok, the 5.54's were a snug fit and shot much better. The Air Arms Falcons I suggested above, while saying 5.52 on the tin, actually fit nice and snug exactly like the FTT 5.54's and at least in mine shot even tighter groups and still do if I'm doing my part.

If it's a 177 that has an oversized bore then the normally crappy 7.9gr Crosman Premier Superpoints would work since its the largest diameter 177 pellet I have ever tried that are so big they were extremely difficult to load and in fact got stuck in the barrels of lower power guns that wouldn't shoot them out.

My favorite is H&N FTT. However, my HW95 seems to like all pellets. I had an issue with accuracy that I thought was pellet related. After some research I discovered that I was not properly compensatiing for scope parallax, which solved the problem.

Start with H&N Field Target Trophy in 5.53 or 5.54 head size in the .22 cal HW95. Seems to be a common winner for many.

Straight Shooters sells a pellet sampler. I don't know if there are enough to determine the best for your rifle.
