Best Air supply Strategy?

Hi all, New to Air but not guns. I have been down the road on most of the Bang-Bang hobbies, 3-gun, USPSA, Steel, Rimfire, Clays, etc. Now I am giving Airguns and Field Target a go.

Question - If I am practicing/plinking and catching some local FT matches what would be the best way to manage my Air fill purchases? No hunting.

Should a go:

1. Small portable compressor straight to the gun with no tank.

2. Tank and find a place to fill.

3. Mid size compressor and small tank for fills in the field.

I am looking at a Daystate Hunter or something similar so I believe I would have 50-60 shots per fill? Meaning I would need some way to fill remote.

I have budgeted 1,500 for my Air filling needs all in.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Always the hitch in air gunning!

I have all. A small " pony bottle is ideal for mobility but not if you have to pay for fills

I have an AV, but the guys are speaking highly of the newer yong heng (sp). You can fill bottle and gun for < 300. I say again, I'd buy from Wally and purchase the 3 or 4 yr warrant.

The big bottles are great as long as you're not lugging around. All sorts of carts and carry systems rigged.

You'll get a hundred suggestions here..

Thank you Keyman. I was leaning towards the Pony bottle and Compressor. I wish there was some better options than the Yong. Could the AV Nomad fill a Pony bottle? Do you have the larger AV?

Probably a pipe dream but a nice US made 700-800 dollar mid size compressor would be ideal.

Pipe dream it is. They are all Chinese until you get to real quality. You could just do a larger tank at your truck depending on how much your gun can hold/regulated. Most serious event guys have a little ninja type tank like a guppy.

I too am plinking and for that I got a Benjamin Recharge. It was $1100 with a coupon code shipped. I did 3 months worth of research before I decided on that one.

I shoot at home so no need for a scba tank and the compressor only runs for 90 seconds tops, so it should have a very ong life. I do keep a look out on a good deal for a large portable scba tank and will purchase if it's a great deal but I'm in no rush or in need.

I also have a small propane electric generator that I use for camping if I needed to bring the Benjamin Recharge with me to top off or if the power goes dark. The Benjamin Recharge is about 60bs and compact. Definitely manageable for travel. The propane generator is a Sportsman dedicated LP that cost $360 from Homedepot. With those two, you're under your budget and have an electric generator with money left over for LP and ammo.

Cheers.

My fill station is simple. I'm a plinker. I have several PCP guns (a .22 Benjamin Marauder. a .22 FX Royale 400, a .22 Daystate Wolverine R and a .25 Air Venture Avenger). My station consists of an Omega Air Charger (a 4500 psi compressor) and a 66 cu-ft carbon fiber tank called a "Hammerhead" by Joe Brancato, the guy I bought it from. Joe is very knowledgeable and doesn't mind talking to you. When you call him Andrew will probably be the one to answer the phone.

Joe also sold me a neat regulator that makes filling my PCP's a piece of cake. The best way to tell you about it is to provide you with the link that introduced me to it. Here's the link: The talk about the regulator starts at about 1:45.

I see Shoebox compressors off and on for 10 years, so I had a tank and shop compressor. I wanted to both shoot and fill from a bottle.

As a result, I purchased a Altaros Booster made in the Czech Republic, Altaros is well known for their airgun regulators and quality.

It will be slow, around 2 hours to top off a 60 minute tank from 3000 to 4500 psi, but I only filled that 5ank every three weeks.

There are no pistons to fail, connecting rods to break and because it runs cool, very few orings to replace.

aAt $818 that is a price that is hard to beat.

After my last Shoebox past on to..... knifemaker’s dead Shiebox parts bin, I purchased a Hatsan Spark to run things until I made up my mind on which route to take.

A close 2nd place in my descision was our own BThurman, who is importing a AV4500 lookalike manufactured with sturdier parts. BThurman will go through the compressor and break it in, and provide service and parts in the future.

Hope this helps in your descision.
