Best 50$ air gun.

My father in law is slowly getting into air guns. I offered to let him use one of mine but he is the type of guy that wants his own tools even if they are nothing special. He told me today that he wants to spend 50$ on a pellet gun for plinking and pests under 30 yards. Open sights mostly. I gave him the “talk” about just taking the bull by the horns and spending even just 60 bucks more to get a Better gun. He’s going to Walmart to get one soon if I don’t find any other choices for him. Any feed back would be great. I’m hoping there is somthing out there that’s better then the Walmart shelf gun. But for 50 bucks I know it’s most likely a lost cause.

My local Walmarts carry the Daisy 880 for $35. They are good shooters for the money and fun to tinker with. I've certainly plinked out past 30 yards with them, but I think they're a little light for pest control out that far.

Walmart also has the Benjamin Legacy 1000 pumper for $49. I haven't owned the Legacy, but I had a Crosman 2100 which is similar. The 2100 had equal or better accuracy than the 880s, and I liked the size and feel of the 2100 more than the 880. Another option might be a 2100 refurb or Winchester 77 refurb from Fieldsupply.com for under $50.

Have fun!

Dude for those prices tell him to get any multipump airgun. He will have issues with accuracy if he buys a springer at that price and most co2 at that level are pistols and not good for hunting. Id suggest the 1322 multi pump pistol but as others have suggested the daisy 880 or any other pump will work great. Ive been told on here that 177 in anything other than pcp is not good for rabbit and squirrels. Thats bullocks 7.5 grain pellet going 500 fps with good aim will work fine. New people getting into airguns should stay away from cheap springers imo. Good accuracy makes you addicted. More power keeps you addicted. Then you go back to low power because you get old and boring and care about shotcount and max accuracy in springers . Thats the recipe.

learn how to "properly" shoot a springer (weather it be cheap or high dollar), along with finding the pellets it likes and you'll have a 10m-50m nail driver around 600-1000fps and 10-20fpe. that can group dimes at 10m and quarters at 50m.

I guess Springer just arent some peoples game, however they carry much more power and if you've learned the rifle/committed to patience and practice, more accuracy than a multi pump hands down.

My opinion?

Here goes...

Daisy 880 at Wal-Mart. I bought one. Better than expected. Fun to shoot. There are several dirt cheap easy modifications that can be done. (The 1st thing I did was super glue the BB port closed.) Mine will accept up to 20 pumps and dumps all of the air plus will put 10 shots into 1/2 inch at 20-25 yds. (Scoped,of course)

Or, option number "B"...

The Beeman P17. It shoots Great.

Mike.

1377 or 1322 is probably the best thing you will find under $100 the barrel alone is worth more than anything under $100. I have a 1377 that kept me from starving in my youth before I was old enough to legally work so I could afford store bought food on a regular basis. I took plenty of dove, quail, rabbit, prairie dog, and even iguana with 7.9gr crosman premier's. That pistol is a one hole tack driver with out a single mod. I still keep one in my backpacking gear right next to a couple rat traps. 1377 n a couple rat traps n your set!!!!

There is a large aftermarket for this "legendary" pistol. It can be configured in so many ways.
