Benjamin Maximus .177 review pt 2.

congrats on your Maximus !. Do you remember what drill size you used to open up the new transfer port you bought ? Did you buy the Euro Maximus transfer port and oversized it ?

I have a Euro Maximus in .177. It came at 8.5 fpe out of box. I ovesized the transfer port from stock .05" to .078". Replaced the hammer spring to a longer but softer sprig from the Challenger. Now it's about 11.5 fpe.

I've been considering the Euro, as it's inexpensive enough to warrant just buying, and using the hand pump. I can't imagine using a hand pump on a 500cc bottle for the Impact. I have Gen 2 Marauder, and I also get 10 shot ragged holes at 25 yards, at about 3/4 inch. It runs over 21FPE energy, The euro is intriguing because it's full power with a 2000 fill.

I'm not sure what size I drilled the transfer port to. It was the next size up in my drill bit case (sizes not labeled) from the bit that fit into the transfer port. I ordered the 12 ft lb hammer spring and transfer port and I can tell you the hammer spring doesn't make that big of a difference. It dropped the velocity using the full power transfer port by about 75 fps. It was still too powerful.

With a trigger job, I believe you'll be happy with the Euro Maximus. If you want more power, I'd suggest ordering a new low power transfer port and drilling it out until you get your desired velocity. The Maximus is extremely light weight, so there is no fatigue carrying it around. The accuracy is impressive and it is very easy to pump it back up. After 32 shots, I only use 500 psi of air. It takes me 40 pumps to bring it back up to 2000 psi and that includes the few pumps it takes to equalize the pressure of the pump line to the rifle pressure. So pretty much it takes 1 pump per shot using my hill pump. Can't beat that!

After I oversized the transfer port to .078" on the Euro, the velocity was on a linear downward trend. After I changed to the Challenger hammer spring, it now gives me a flatter fps graph. Might try an even softer or shorter spring.

I might try installing a regulated Ninja tank at 1400 psi via the gage port. 1400 psi seems to be the sweet spot for my Euro. Been dreaming to make it a bottled Euro. Downside is I have to make a new stock.
