Benjamin Discovery

hi, my name is Patrick an i am trying to get into the airgun game, however it has been complicated for me to decide what gun to start with. My first question is considering i can only afford the benjamin discovery when it comes to pcps. as far as springers i was looking benjamin trail np2 or np. im only fourteen so this decision is important seeing how i can only afford one gun for quite sometime, an would then have to focus on gear. eventually i want to get into long range shooting because im interested in the challenge, so keeping that in mind does anybody have any suggestions. thanks

Majorwinters, I put a Lane regulator in my disco as a test project. With out any other mods it increased my on bull hits from 8 good shots to over 50! I had Jimmy of Camp Fussel fame sh0ot it and it was over 60 when I told him to stop..Since he only got 12 good shots he had me put a Lane reg in his disco. Then Lane came set for 100 bar and all instructions come with it including the drill bit needed to vent the tube. Easy install for the hobbyist. The regulator is adjustable if you want to tune it up or down. You can leave the not so good or accurate air gauge in or leave it out like I did. I trust my Joe B tank gauge to fill it.

Easiest and quickest way to increase your ON TARGET shot count. Now the barrel is another story for accuracy..but that is a subject that has been covered on other posts, and other posts, and other posts.......... Hope this helps

Hi, Patrick,
If long range shooting is what you're interested in, I'd say go pcp-the Discovery is a decent gun out of the box(usually) and you can add a scope later as your budget permits.
It is a little loud without a moderator (TKO Brake) but as long as you're not trying to shoot in the backyard you'll be fine without one. Remember you'll need a hand pump or scuba tank to fill the Discovery, so now you're into the $350-400 price point. If that's too much for your budget, you can get a top of the line breakbarrel (HW 95) on special from Airguns of Arizona for $299 shipped. That gun is much better quality than the Benjamin nitro piston guns, and it is one of the most respected and accurate guns out there. Keep us posted- always good to see young folks getting into the sport!

Patrick,
I have a Discovery .22 and Trail NP2s in 177 and 22. The Trails are nice. The Disco is just a step up. It pumps up with no problem. My Trails kick--the 177 like a mule. The Disco has almost no recoil. My Trails both shoot at 20FPE. My Discovery at around 25. Do not believe the nonsense on the boxes about velocity. You gotta put the gun to a chrony for the truth. My 177 Trail shoots at 1050--fps...but the pellet becomes unstable around forty or so yards (the box says 1400fps) My 22 Trail shoots at 780 FPS--but the pellet carries very well and hits a fence post hard at 75 yards. For all practical purposes they cannot be modified.

My Disco shoots above 850 and is much more accurate than my Trails. No doubt about it. And it can be modified and upgraded in a lot of ways. You will need to toss in another fifty bucks if you want a TKO muzzle break. And you may wish to have it tuned to get the best accuracy. But it is a lot of fun out of the box. And though the Marauder is very popular--it is much heavier and a beast to lug around. The Disco is very light and easy to shoulder.

But like John said above...you might call AoA and ask about some premium springers. Break barrels are convenient.

Good luck and stay safe.
