I think I found the design that inspired the Bulldog. The H&K G11 Prototype assault rifle. I think it was a really cool idea, but they abandoned it when the Berlin Wall fell and East Germany dissolved. It used a caseless ammunition which meant that nothing had to be ejected before loading the next round.
